     Ira Henry Poage Ira Henry Poage, 79, of Roanoke went to live at that little spot in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday August 26, 2014, as he had been promised many years ago. He made this transition at the exemplary Virginia Veterans Care Center while holding the hand of his beloved wife of 45 years, Audra Metz Poage. Ira was born on August 28, 1933 in Roanoke County to Walter and Alice Muse Poage. Ira served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was wounded while in Suma, Japan. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Salem, VA. and unfortunately had to retire in 1975 due to his military disabilities. He was a member of Haran Baptist Church where he worshipped the Lord. Audra and the family would like to express many thanks to the wonderful Virginia Veterans Care Center that helped him through his many illnesses during his stay there. She retired from the Kroger Co. as a Clerk/Cashier, was a member of the Iron Gate Baptist Church, and an active member of the Iron Gate Civic Organization. Drotha was a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Stuart Newcomb in October of 1972. She is survived by two daughters; Teresa Persinger and husband Tommy, Christie Boyd and husband Leroy, a son; Mark Stuart Newcomb, all of Iron Gate, four grandchildren; Jamie Boyd, Tom Persinger, Danny Persinger, Alexis Boyd, a great-grandchild; Lee Boyd, and special friends; Lena Kay McClung, Mark Clark, Brenda Lindsay, and many other family members and friends. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery in Fincastle.
