     Eunice Myrtle Hartsell Eunice Hartsel Howell, January 19, 1927 - June 5, 2022. Eunice Hartsell Howell, 96, formerly of Dublin, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Bridgewater Retirement Community. She was a retired office manager with St. Albans Psychiatric Hospital and a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ivory Belle Hartsel; her beloved husband, Herman F. Howell; and siblings, Drema Poage, Corinne Atkinson, Kathryn Schmitt, Margaret Birch; and John S. Hartsel, Jr. Survivors include her two brothers, Michael Hartsel of Boones Mill, and Joe Hartsel of Hardy; sons, Taylor Howell of Harrisonburg, and Garrett Deane Howell of Greensboro, N.C; grandsons, Benjamin, Isaac, Jonathan and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Jackson, Victoria, Jacob, Liam, Oryn, Case, Griffin, and Catherine (decease); and many other relatives and friends. He was born in Sparta, Tenn. on October 13, 1913, to the late John Douglas and Lillie Ann Tallant Howell. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Delbert, William (Bill), Haston, Richard and James; and three sisters, Etta Post, Ina Honeycutt and Rowena Hancock. He served in the United States Army during World War II where his tour of duty was with the signal corps serving in the South Pacific. His working years were in the Textile Industry, with the last twenty five being at the New River Textiles in Radford, retiring in January 1976. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Eunice Hartsel Howell, of Dublin; two sons, Taylor L., Harrisonburg, and Garrett Deane, of Greensboro, N.C; four grandsons and spouses, Benjamin and Stephanie Howell, of Chesterfield, Isaac J. and Kim Howell, of Norfolk, Jonathan D. and Nicholas D. Howell, both of Greensboro, N.C; one great-grandson, Jackson Taylor Howell, of Chesterfield; brother and sister-in-law, Edward Lee and Audrey Howell, of Blue Ridge; special sister-in-laws, June, Lois and Carol Howell and Margaret Birch; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. on March 21, 2008.⁶

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Atkinson; a son, Darryl Atkinson; and sisters, Kathryn Schmitt and Dreama Pogue. Survivors include sons, L.W. Atkinson Jr., Bryant, Ala., Gerald W. (Diane) Atkinson, Red Bank, John D. (Sandra) Atkinson, White; daughters, Gladys (Sissie) Ware, Rossville, Diane A. (David) Smith, Red Bank, and Deborah K. She was a retired Health and Physical Ed teacher for the Fairfax County Public Schools for 30 years. She was the widow of George Edwin Birch. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mark E. and Barbara Birch of Front Royal, Virginia; grandchildren, Melissa and Becky Birch; siblings, Eunice Howell, Michael Hartsel, Jerald Hartsel.
