She is survived by George Durham Henning, M.D., her loving husband of 58 years as celebrated on January 29, 2023. She leaves behind four children and eight grandchildren, G. Thomas and Betsy Henning of Richmond, Virginia (George and Lucy), Reverends Matthew and Jill Henning of Savannah, Georgia (Sarah and Ashleigh), Edward and Emily Henning of Madison, Mississippi (Josephine and Marcus), and Gretchen and Jared Feury of Scottsville, Virginia (Delaney and James). Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas F. Rives and Edna George Rives of McKenney, Virginia. Being the #1 sister of five was a prized role. She leaves behind sisters, Becky Winn (Buzzy), Dukie Barner (David), Claire Brill (Gene) and Mary Pearrell (Tim), as well as numerous extended family that she loved. Edna enjoyed sisters' weekends filled with strategic bridge playing, puzzle building, good food and reminiscing as well as making new memories. She enjoyed occasional international travel and frequent small adventures to visit with family and friends. Edna enjoyed yearly pilgrimages to the beach and cherished her role as Gran, Grangum, and Grandma depending which grandchild you asked. Edna graduated valedictorian of her high school and enjoyed being a team basketball player once scoring 42 points in a game! A 1965 graduate of the University of Virginia nursing school, Edna worked the ICU at Community Hospital, Psychiatry at the Veterans Hospital, and with a Home Health Care team here in the Roanoke Valley. Edna was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church since 1972. Also being civic minded, she was engaged in volunteering of her time and talents which brought her much joy. The Council of Community Services, Junior League of the Roanoke Valley, Academy of Medical Alliance, The Rescue Mission and others benefitted from her service. Edna believed in random acts of kindness, supporting the local farmer or artist, finding the perfect greeting card for any situation and showing up to love those who need pouring into. She held a light of thoughtfulness and kindness along the pathway of life for others to follow. She offered her wisdom and experience freely to help and guide others. on February 5, 2023.4

Mr. Gentry was born in Danville Va., on July 26, 1945, a son of the late Bernard Odell Gentry and Eunice Riddle Gentry. Mr. Gentry retired from United Parcel Service after 32 years of service. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He graduated from Brosville High School. On December 27, 1978, he married Virginia "Ginger" George Gentry, who survives of the residence. Survivors also include a daughter, Betty Jo G. DeHart (Dean); and a brother, Mike O. Gentry (Jan). A son, Mack O. Gentry Jr., a sister, Geneva G. Waddell; and a brother, Frank O. Gentry, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 18, 2018, from the graveside at Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery in Sutherlin, Va. on July 17, 2018.4
