Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Wiley Clark and Maymie Hodges Clark. Delores was retired from Ericson/GE and was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Edward “Jim” Moon, Jr., her son, Richard Scott Moon and her daughter, Cathy Powell; her sister, Charlotte C. Merkal and her brother, Charlie W. Clark, Jr. Survivors include four grandchildren, Heather Pratt, Morgan Moon, Katie Guthman and Christopher Cordle and six great grandchildren. Charlotte Patricia Clark was buried at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia.4 She Charlotte Clark Merkal passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at her home in Forest, Va., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Charlotte was a devoted, loving wife to Ronald S. Merkal, and they happily shared thirty years of wedded bliss. Charlotte was born on November 8, 1936, in Lynchburg, Va., and worked for Nationwide Insurance for several years after graduating from Lynchburg High School. She then moved to Arlington, Va. to work for the U.S. Department of Army as a secretary at the Pentagon. Charlotte's excellent secretarial skills and professionalism enabled her to obtain the lead secretary position for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. After thirty years of faithful service, she retired in 1992, and moved to Forest with her husband. Charlotte loved her husband's extended family, and was gracious and supportive to her four step-children. She absolutely adored her nine step-grandchildren of whom she lovingly dotted over. Charlotte was a magnet for small children, and she delighted in helping raise two of her grandchildren. Charlotte's gentle, loving spirit was a testament to her deep faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Charlotte's beautiful, happy disposition will be treasured and missed by her family and friends. Charlotte was preceded in death by her mother, Mayme P. Clark; father, Charlie Wiley C. Clark; and brother, Charlie W. Clark.Charlotte is survived by her husband, Ronald Merkal; four step-children, Paul Merkal, Donna Schronce, Carol Lancaster, and Daniel Merkal; nine grandchildren; her sister, Delores Moon; her nephews, Donald Clark, Anthony Clark, and Scott Moon; and niece, Cathy Powell. Richard Scott Moon Richard Scott Moon, 61, of Lynchburg went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his residence. Born August 2, 1955 in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Delores Clark Moon of Forest and the late Dr. James E. Moon. Richard was baptized at an early age and was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church. Richard graduated from Brookville High school and attended CVCC. He was a fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and loved to travel. He worked 15 years for BWXT and Delta Star. He loved to play the piano and had serves as minister of music at Tree of Life and for a number of years, he volunteered at the Adult Care Center, PACE and various other places in Lynchburg playing music. In addition to his mother, he leaves behind his fiancée and devoted caregiver, Deborah Dodson of Forest; two daughters, Heather Moon Pratt and her husband Jason of Floyd and Katie Moon Guthman and her husband James of Floyd; one son, Morgan Scott Moon of Lynchburg; one sister, Catherine June Powell of Forest; three grandchildren, Cassidy Pratt, Harmony Pratt and Kyndal Pratt all of Floyd; a special cousin/friend, Donnie Clark and a number of other relatives and friends.
