She was a seamstress and attended Harrison Street United Methodist Church, Harrisville. Surviving are six daughters, Bernice Hostottle of Little Hocking, Ohio, Emma Hammett of Vienna, Martha Vincent of Cairo, Connie Schaney of Carrolton, Ohio, Dixie Reed of Pennsboro and Gloria Morgan of Williamstown; two sons, Samuel Carroll, M.D., of Charleston and Daniel Carroll of Harrisville; two sisters; three brothers; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and her faithful cat, Sushi. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Eva Carroll, and one granddaughter, Shelly Schaney. Services were held at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Rev. Harlan Hodge officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Malissa “Dee” Haggerty of Moundsville; twin sons, Larry (Joyce) Posey of Florida and Gary (Wendy) Posey, St. Clairsville, OH and son, David Posey, of Moundsville; twenty-five grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Macel Ellen Elmore Macel Ellen Elmore Sparks, 88 of Beckley went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2017. She passed away at home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born February 24, 1929 in Cocoa, WV to the late Silas and Gustava Elmore. She was a long time member of the Open Bible Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord and her family. She loved her husband, Fred Edward Sparks, they were married for 44 years until he went to be with the Lord in December 1993. They both loved the Lord will all their hearts and served Him faithfully and enjoyed their lives together. She volunteered at Pine Lodge for years. She loved helping friends and family. She loved to cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She enjoyed having her grandkids around; they truly loved her with all their hearts. Even though she did not know all of the great-grandkids because of the Alzheimer's they would always put a smile on her face and give her peace. Macel and her friends in the community were and are highly respected by all. She touched so many lives and was a spiritual influence to friends and family and she will truly be missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Sparks; two brothers, Cecil Elmore and Herbert (Sonny) Elmore; sisters, Pauline Elmore Shaffer, Lessie Elmore Comer of Fayetteville; grandson, Edward Wayne Lester and a number of unborn grandkids and great-grandkids. Those left to cherish her memories include her sister, Dot Elmore Belcher of OH; 3 daughters, Ann Sparks Lester and husband, Henry of FL, Ruby Sparks Mitchell and husband, Jerry of Beckley, Kathy Sparks Walker and husband, Jack of TN; 2 sons, Fred E. Sparks Jr. and wife Regina of Beckley and David W. Sparks and wife Libby of Beckley; 14 grandkids; 35 great-grandkids and 18 great-great-grandkids. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia. Services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday May 16, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Beckley.
