The family home was always open to extended family, friends, and strangers. He never spoke ill of anyone and was always considered to be a person that could be counted on when someone needed a helping hand. He freely gave of his time, his money, and his expertise whenever asked without expecting anything in return. Working side-by-side with Wilson, Reva successfully raised a family of four children and always shared her optimism, clever sense of humor, and great love of road trips, sightseeing, and outdoor adventure. A skillful and prolific painter, Mrs. Burdette's hobbies included quilting, visiting museums and historical parks, playing family board and card games, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sharing lively conversations, and, especially, beachcombing the Gulf Coast in Florida and the Atlantic shoreline on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Always an efficient homemaker and supportive mother and grandparent, Mrs. Burdette still found the time and energy to apply her effective organizational skills during employment as the main office secretary at Hampton High School during the 1960's and 70's. Constantly seeking opportunities to share compassion and generosity with others, she was a warm and dependable neighbor on Sanford Drive and often opened her home to welcome visitors, including relatives, friends, and folks less fortunate than herself. Blaine Adams, widower of her late daughter, Cheryl B. Adams, of Prince Frederick, Md; grandchildren, Kimberly Adams of McLean, Va., Brett Adams of Park City, Utah, Samantha B. MacNaughton and husband, Andrew, of Severna Park, Md., Jon Andrew Burdette and wife, Amanda, of Fort Collins, Colo., Andrew N. Burdette and fiance, Barbara Biddle, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Matthew Burdette of Hampton; great-grandson Stewart MacNaughton; brother Lanty H. White and wife, Barbara Sue, of Newport News, and sister Lenore Brothers of Norfolk. A public visitation/viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton. Memorial services will be conducted by the Reverend, Dr. Bob Gustafson, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. All who knew Mrs. Reva Burdette will miss her tender empathy toward strangers, as well as toward those she loved, her exceptionally patient, active listening skills, her unending optimism, her keen sense of fair play, her courage in fighting for a righteous cause, her unerring judgment, and her exemplary faith in God. She taught us well how to better get along with each other. Our lives were greatly enriched by her powerful, yet gentle spirit. on February 27, 2007.⁴

     Ethel Mae Chambers was buried at Hope Presbyterian Gardens of Hope and Columbarium, 2110 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, Winter Haven, Polk Co., Florida.³ She was born on May 9, 1923 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.^2,4 As of December 24, 1943,her married name was Burdette.² She married Dr. Marvin Garten Burdette, son of Andrew Wilson Burdette and Minnie Gertrude Garten, on December 24, 1943 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.^1,2,4 Ethel Mae Chambers died on April 24, 1997 at Winter Haven, Polk Co., Florida, at age 73.⁴ She WINTER HAVEN - Mrs. Ethel Mae Burdette of Winter Haven died Thursday (April 24, 1997) at her home. She was 73. Born in Charleston, W.Va., on May 9, 1923, she moved to Winter Haven from Huntington, W.Va., in 1958. She was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Hope Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Gardenia Garden Club and the Lake Region Yacht and Country Club. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Marvin G. Burdette Sr., Winter Haven; sons, Dr. Marvin G. Burdette Jr., Greenwood, S.C., and Dr. David C. Burdette, Orange Park; daughter, Lynn Moneck, Clearwater; and nine grandchildren. on April 28, 1997.⁴

     Her Social Security Number was 223-68-7967.⁶ Cheryl Jean Burdette was born on June 17, 1946 at Newport News, Virginia.^2,3,6,5 As of June 22, 1966,her married name was Adams.² She married James Blaine Adams on June 22, 1966 at Hampton, Virginia.^1,4,2,5 Cheryl Jean Burdette died on December 16, 2005 at Maryland at age 59.^6,5 She Cheryl B. Adams, 59, was born in Hampton, Va., on June 17, 1946, the only daughter of four children of Wilson and Reva Burdette, 105 Sanford Drive. Cheryl completed her undergraduate and graduate education in library science at the University of Maryland, College Park. Upon graduation, she became a librarian in the Prince George's County Public School System. During her 30-year teaching career she served as librarian at O. W. Phair Elementary, Seat Pleasant Elementary, University Park Elementary, CT Reed Elementary, Buck Lodge Middle School, and Kettering Middle School in Prince George's County. In 1990 she moved with her family to Calvert County and transferred as librarian to Mutual Elementary School in 1992, then in 1994 moved to open the library at Patuxent High School where she completed her professional career, retiring in 2004. While at University Park Elementary in PG County she was an advocate for and proponent of the Write-A-Book Festival. Once relocated to Calvert County and Mutual Elementary she initiated the inclusion of the Accelerated Reader Program, first at Mutual then offered training across the district for elementary school librarians. On Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, Cheryl Burdette Adams, of Prince Frederick, Md. Beloved wife of Blaine Adams; loving mother of Kimberly Adams and Brett Adams. She is survived by her parents, Wilson and Reva Burdette; brothers, Gary, Daniel and Brian Burdette, all of Hampton, Va; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. on December 19, 2005.⁵
