He is a Vietnam Veteran and a purple heart recipient, former football and wrestling coach at Nitro High School, and is a Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee. Steve was a graduate of WV State University, an avid WVU fan and a member of the Charleston Area WVU Fan Club and was a Baptist. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest “Ron” and Garnet “Edie” White and brothers Mike and Ronnie. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Carole Bowen White, daughter Danielle Hoptry and husband Jon, son Steve White, II and wife Dawn, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A celebration of Coach White’s life will be held at 12:30 PM Friday, September 28, 2018 at Cooke Funeral Home, 2002 20th St., Nitro with Rev. Dr. Lawrence Hoptry officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. He worked as a Rehab Counselor at WV State Rehab Center for over 20 years; also he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Appalachian Center for Independent Living, a member of CAMC Spinal Cord Support Group and a member of the Kanawha Valley WVU fan club.3 He was born on January 13, 1951.3 He married Connie R. Hodges on February 13, 1998 at Boyd Co., Kentucky.2 Ernest Michael "Mike" White died on February 11, 2017 at West Virginia at age 66.3
