He was born May 3, 1926 in Sugar Grove, Warren County, the son of the late Eugene and Emily L. Eckert. He was a self-employed lumberman for most of his life retiring in 1983. He had served in the Army Company D 119th infantry 30th Division, WWII in France and Germany and had received the Purple Heart for a head injury. He was a life member of the Sugar Grove American Legion Post 758, a member of the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department, the AMVETS Post 50 of Sugar Grove, and a member of Gas and Oil Association for eight years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Way in 1963, and his second wife, Ilean Eckert in 2001 whom he married Aug. 28, 1964.
