He formerly served as Mayor of Ramseur for 18 years, and on the advisory board of Ramseur First National Bank. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ramseur. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elinor Riehm Thomas of Ramseur; sons, Dr. Robert E. Thomas of Ramseur, and Fred Amick Thomas, Jr. of Charleston, S.C; sister, Louise Thomas of Greensboro; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. on May 7, 1996.6
