She was born on May 4, 1929 at home in Pax, W.Va. near Beckley. She is a daughter of the late Goldie Settle Sowder and the late William Ernest Sowder. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Junior R. Turner; brothers, Harold Sowder and Sherman Sowder; sisters, Loraine Radford and Betty Kornke. After graduating from high school in Mt. Hope, W.Va., she moved to Martinsville and worked at DuPont for a short period of time before her marriage. Evelyn was a former member of Druid Hills Baptist Church. Evelyn is survived by her son, Robert L. Turner and wife, Vicky of Martinsville. Also she is survived by her grandson, Matthew Turner and wife, Samantha of Lynchburg. Evelyn also leaves behind a great-grand daughter, Emma Pearl Turner and a great- grandson, Xander Arbaugh both of Lynchburg. Evelyn is survived by her brothers, Bob Sowder (Janet) of Catlett, Va., Jim Sowder of West Chester, Pa. and Charles Sowder (Jessie) of Baltimore, Md; sisters, Rosann Culley of Baltimore, Md., Bonnie Hornsby of Bradley, W.Va., and Geneva Coley of Oak Hill, W.Va. and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tracy Freeman officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Henry Memorial Park. on June 27, 2016.4
