Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will be in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill. on September 6, 2001.3

Shawkey, on November 25, 1949 at Man, Logan Co., West Virginia.1,5 Kenneth Harlan Miller died on June 25, 2006 at Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky, at age 88.6,4,5 He MILLER, Kenneth Harlan, 88, of Lexington, KY, and former resident of Winchester, KY, and Huntington, WV, died Sun, June 25, 2006, at his home. He was the eldest son of the late Harlan Ross and Ina Flo Chapman Miller, born on Oct. 15, 1917, in the Rock Bridge community of Monroe County, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Jane Anderson Miller in 2005. He was a 1936 graduate of Gamaliel High School and attended the Bowling Green Business University, now part of Western Kentucky University. In 1939 he entered the West Virginia coal industry and served in the roles of purchasing agent, accountant, and credit manager for Guyan Eagle Coal Company of Amherstdale, WV, and served as manager of credit sales for Princess Coals, Inc. of Huntington. In 1967 he became the business manager of the Clark County Hospital in Winchester and was a Realtor in Winchester in retirement prior to moving to Lexington. He served in the 440th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons Mobile) Battalion of the United States Army in Europe during World War II, earning five Bronze Campaign Stars; this unit landed on Utah Beach in the Normandy Invasion and received the French Croix de Guerre with Silver Star for the defense of Gouvy, Belgium that helped slow the German offensive at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge. He served as President of the National Fuel Credit Association; Chairman of the Winchester Housing Authority; President of Rotary Clubs of Man, West Virginia and Winchester, KY, and was a member of the Rotary Club of Lexington, and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He served the Boy Scouts of America at the unit, district, and council level in the Tri-State Area Council and the Blue Grass Council. He was an ordained Deacon and Elder of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.); former Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, and a member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church. He was a descendent of settlers of the Virginia Colony and was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He is survived by his three sons, U.S. Army Colonel Philip Kenneth Miller and wife Brenda of Lexington, Edwin Anderson Miller of Key West, FL and Daniel Harlan Miller and wife Lisa of grandchildren Whitney Blair Davis, Meredith Charlotte Miller, Wilson Dudley Miller; great-granddaughter Ella Blair Davis; a brother, J. Robert Miller of Tompkinsville, and a sister, Betty Jane Pence, of Franklin, TN. Services will be 10 a.m., Fri at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway conducted by Rev. Dr. Edward H. Mesta and Rev. Mary Reed. Burial with full military honors will be FrI, June 30 at 2:30 p.m. CDT at the Skaggs Creek Cemetery in Monroe County, Kentucky, with Dr. David Blondell officiating. Casket bearers will be Judy Yann, Sheila Gibson, Joseph J. Miller, John Robert Miller II, John Woods Davis II, Robert M. Kirkpatrick, Reginald E. Palmore III, and John W. Frederick. on June 29, 2006.5
