His passion in life was his family, he loved each of us with all his heart and taught us to be strong, honest and caring people. He loved to "tinker", whether it was in the yard, garden or any of his many projects. His smile and laughter brightened the lives of many and that smile will be greatly missed. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Neal and Creel Willen and one brother, Bill Helton. Those left to cherish each wonderful moment and memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Kalen Helton; a daughter, Debbie Gwinn and husband Danny of Nimitz; three sons, Willie and wife Angie of Rock Hill, SC, Howard R. "#2" Jr. and wife Lisa of Roanoke and Mike and wife Sarah of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Samantha and Sara Gwinn, Robert Helton, Jordan and Sam Helton, Mikey and Jon Howard Helton; three great grandchildren, Justin and Jonah Zimmerman and Charles Ray Lucas. For as much as he loved each one of us he will be doubly missed. Burial will follow in the Cales Cemetery at Sandstone. Pallbearers will be Danny Gwinn, Robert Helton, Mikey Helton, Jordan Helton, Sam Helton and Chucky Lucas. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin and Jonah Zimmerman, Charles Ray Lucas and Jon Howard Helton.2 He was buried at Cales Cemetery, Sandstone, Summers Co., West Virginia.2 He was born on December 8, 1923 at Kilsyth, Fayette Co., West Virginia.1,4,3,2 He married Wilma Joan Dooley, daughter of Robert Reginal Dooley and Jeanette Truman Shockey, on December 1, 1947 at Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia.5 Howard Ray Helton died on September 12, 2013 at West Virginia at age 89.3,2

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 25 years: Carolyn Dickenson, children: Jan Davidson and her husband Steve, Jenny Dickenson, Roger Merrill and wife Rosalie and Candy Merrill. Grandchildren: Heather Burdeaux and husband Joel, Timothy Davidson, Nathan Davidson, Sarah Merrill and Samantha Merrill, great-grandchildren: Arabella Burdeaux and Holden Burdeaux. Many loving friends also survive him. Burial to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. on July 10, 2004.3
