Mr. Hillbrant had been a resident of Allen county all his life and was a member of the United Brethren church. Mr. Hillbrant's parents homestead a claim west near the Neosho river in 1857, and he was born on this homestead the following year. He had been quite active until a few days ago when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He is survived by five sons and two daughters. They are: Otto, Ephraim and John Hillbrant, all of Iola; Henry Hillbrant of Ottawa and Charles Hillbrant of Bolivar, Mo; Mrs, W.V. Wilson of Iola and Mrs M.W. Foster of Buckner, Mo. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the United Brethren Church. The Rev. G.E. Jennison and the Rev. Paul Life will conduct the services and burial will be in Highland Cemetery. on January 26, 1939.5

KELLY BECOMES THIRD WOMAN SHERIFF - The third woman to serve as a county sheriff in the Ozarks within a year is Mrs. Bessie Kelly of Houston who was appointed by the county court Monday to fill the remainder of her husband's term as sheriff of Texas county. Former Sheriff Harry Kelly died in a hospital in Springfield Friday as a result of blood poisoning caused by a small scratch which he received in an automobile accident two weeks ago. Mrs. Kelly will retain Dan C. Boyd who served under her husband as deputy sheriff. The term for which her husband was elected expires January 1, when Andy P. Johnson, Democrat, elected November 8, will take office. Mrs. C. R. Kelly of West Plain, widow of former Sheriff Kelly of Howell County, was the first woman to become sheriff in this section of Missouri. She wns appointed to office immedlately following the death of her husband December 19, 1931. Kelly was shot down in the Davidson garage by bandit whom he tried to question concerning recent burglaries. Els Seiberling was chosen in a special election last Januury 16 to succeed Mrs. Kelly. Mrs. Marcell Hendrix of Springfield was appointed to fill the next lred term of her husband, former sheriff of Greene county, who was killed with five other peace officers by the Young brothers in the masacre which occurred near Springfield January 2. Mrs. Hendrix held office until Scott Curtis had been elected In a apeclal election. She had been nominated as the Republican candidate to fill our her husband's unexpired term, but lost by a slight margin. Mrs. Harry Kelly has two children, Harry Jr., 9 years old, and Kathleen, six years old. on December 15, 1932.11 As of September 29, 1966,her married name was Herrington.2 She married Weldon Duke Herrington on September 29, 1966 at Howell Co., Missouri.2 Bessie May Williams died on April 23, 1983 at age 89.6

Harry was a member of the Houston Methodist Church, having served on the Offical Board for three years. He was a stewart in the Church when he died. He was active in scouting and at one time serves as scout master. He was a member of the Houston Lions Club and was active in many civic projects. He was also a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Harry was accidently shot while on a deer hunting trip on November 6, 1953. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his son, Harry Sherman Kelly III; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Kelly; one sister, Mrs. Louis Fiquet, of St. Joseph, Mo; two grandmothers, Mrs. Cora Williams of Houston and Mrs. Matt Kelly of Raympndville; also three aunts, one uncle and several cousins. Funeral services were conducted at the Houston Methodist Church by Rev. J. R. Halbrook on Sunday afternoon, November 8. He was assisted by Rev. H. E. Trevathan, pastor of the church. Pallbearers were: Marshall Mires, Bill McCaskill, Joe Richardson, Norman Parker, David ImpeyJr., and Albert Lybyer. Honorary pallbearers were: John Houston, Fred Dablemont, Nolan Hutchinson, John Paulson, Ronald White, Guy Akins Jr., Lynn Martin and Winfred McKinney. Burial was in the Houston cemetery with Elliot's of Houston in charge. on November 12, 1953.6

Kathleen known to her students as "Kelly" was a Physical Education teacher from 1947 to 1952. She taught at Central High School, and Hosea School both located in Saint Joseph Missouri. In 1951 Kathleen married Louis A. Fiquet Jr. and they bought the Mumford & Hanna insurance agency, which became Fiquet Insurance and Realty, later known as McWilliams, Burnham, Dickens and Fiquet Independent Insurance Agents of St Joseph, MO. The Williams-Kelly-Fiquet families of Texas Couny have been in property management for over a hundred years. Kathleen had a life-long love of fixing up old rental houses. She loved to envision older properties revitalized. She was also the owner of Fiquet Farm and Realty, Peoples Home and Savings, Kelly Home Decorations and Horseshoe Lake Sports Complex. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Saint Joseph Missouri, Saint Joseph Country Club and Junior League. Kathleen was an avid golfer and spent much of her time on the green or in the back yard teaching her grandchildren the proper swing. Kathleen was also a member, past president and board member of the Missouri Women's Golf Association for 20+ years. She won many women's regional golf tournaments and placed first in the Women's Saint Joseph Regional Golf tournament twice. Kathleen was an active member in the St. Joseph Junior League and portrayed the much loved pixie-like character "Bobby Buttons" before many of the plays performed by the Junior League for children of the St. Joseph schools. Kathleen is survived by children and spouses Dr. Louis A Fiquet III and Jeanne of Bevier, Mo., son Marc L. Fiquet, St. Joseph, Mo., and daughter Renee Fiquet-Freeman and Mark , Sedalia, Mo. She is survived by 6 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 2 great grandchildren.
