Neva was born during the Depression to Jess E. Scarbrough, a barber, and Ruby Ethel, a housewife. She was an only child until she was 15 when her parents had a son, Billy Joe. Her family moved to Oklahoma City, where she attended Classen High School. When Neva was 15, she met Archie Barnard in Oklahoma City, and although he lived in Kingfisher, they dated through high school. After graduation, Archie enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and Neva started college at Oklahoma A&M. At Thanksgiving in 1950, Archie returned home on military leave, asked Neva to marry him, and they married that Christmas Eve. Following the war, Archie and Neva relocated to Stillwater, Okla. Their first child, Janet Marie, was born in Stillwater in 1953 and their son, Brian Keith, was born there in 1956. After Archie graduated from Oklahoma A&M with an engineering degree, they moved to Detroit, then to Indianapolis, with work eventually taking them west to Billings, where they had two more daughters, Cassie Danette and Aimee Michelle. Although she never finished college, Neva worked many years supporting Archie in his businesses and supported her children in their many activities. She became president of the Billings Art Center and the YWCA. When her children were grown, she worked as the Director of Volunteers at Deaconess Hospital, now the Billings Clinic. Neva always collected antiques and became an antique dealer, selling at shows and in booths at antique malls as "Miss Neva's Shed." Neva loved to travel, often mixing her knowledge and love of antiques with trips to visit her children and grandchildren in Washington, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Virginia. She also passed her love for antiques down to her children and grandchildren, who often attended her antique shows and marveled at her talents in finding treasures, displaying them, and connecting with others that shared her passion for antiques. Neva is preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Alexander Patrick, and survived by her husband, Archie Paul, of 63 years; and their four children, Janet (Stephen Endres) of Virginia, Brian (Denise) of Florida, Cassie (Duey Kautzmann) of Texas, and Aimee (Jeffrey Wood) of Washington; as well as two nephews, Jerry and Jimmy Barnard; and the 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren that she leaves behind. A Memorial Service for family and friends will take place on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Billings First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Hathaway. on January 21, 2014.2
