He was born February 26, 1931 in Barbersville, Kentucky, the son of Speed and Rose (Allan) Carty. He served in the United States Army for twenty-one years retiring in 1968. He served as Presidential Guard for President Dwight D. Eisenhower, President John Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and numerous other medals. He loved to fish, hunt, gardening and taking care of his animals. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Mildred L. (Hale) Carty; four sons and daughters-in-law, James "Mike" and Clelia Carty of Urbana, David W. Carty of Springfield, Joseph S. and Christy Carty of Springfield, William "Todd" Carty and Sandy Holloway of Pitchin; daughter-in-law, Kim M. Carty of South Charleston; sister, Mary T. Eisnaugle of Dayton; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Janale and Bill Jones, Julie and Bobby Lyons, Jennifer Carty, Stephen Carty, Christopher Carty, Nicholas Carty, Zachary Carty, Bradley Dunn and Mekayla Carty; four great-grandchildren, Kashanda, Skyler, Stephanie and Anthony; fishing buddies, George, Harold, Herman, Charlie, Leon, Jerry and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy Lee Chambliss; brother-in-law, Loren E. Eisnaugle. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday January 14, 2008 with Pastor Craig Grammer of First Christian Church, officiating.      Beckham Garland Beckham Garland, 97 of Bimble was born September 23 1902 in Knox County and passed away Sunday July 16, 2000 at his home. He was the son of the late Perry Garland and Ida Townsley Garland. On April 19 1930 he united in marriage with Sydna Allen Garland she preceded him in death on October 1, 1997. Five children were born to this union. He was one of the first members of the Knox County and International Gideons Bible Camp. He was a graduate of Barbourville Baptist Institute Union College and Lincoln Memorial University and was a retired school teacher of 37 years. He was the owner and operators of Beckham Garland's General Store for 42 years. In 1960 he founded G&M Oil Corp of Barbourville. He served as Knox County Master Commissioner. In 1991, he was inducted into the 5th District Lincoln Club Hall of Fame. Survivors include one daughter Marie Mills of Heidrick; three sons Frank Garland and wife Irene, Jakie Garland, Jerry Garland and wife Kathy, all of Bimble; one sister, Rose Cole of Dewitt; one brother, James Lewis Garland and wife Lenore of Heidrick; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday July 19 at 2 p.m. at the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church at Bimble with the Rev. Sylvester Dunn and the Rev. James Mooneyham officiating. May 10th, 2009 in the Knox County General Hospital. He was the son of the late Beckham & Sydna (Allen) Garland and was born to them on September 7th, 1948. Mr. Garland was President and CEO of G&M Oil Corporation, Mountain Ridge Drilling, and Garland Restaurants. He was a former Knox County Coroner having served a total of sixteen years first from 1986 until 1993 then again in 1999 until 2006, he also was a member of the Barbourville Fire Dept. for sixteen years from 1980 until 1996. He was a veteran of the National Guard and was a member of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, singing, woodworking, Nascar, and spending time with family & friends. His parents Beckham & Sydna Garland, three brothers Franklin Garland, Jakie Garland, and Donnie Garland, one granddaughter Sydni Elizabeth Kathryn Corey and one brother in-law Vance Mills, precede him in death. Left to mourn his passing is his loving fiancé Marilyn Baker of Bimble, KY, his former wife Kathy Sue Garland of Barbourville, KY and their three children, Donna Rejai (Garland) Corey & husband Jeff, Becky Sue (Garland) Miller & husband Kevin, and Jerry Wayne Garland II & wife Lorrie all of Bimble, KY, one sister Marie Mills of Barbourville, KY, six grandchildren William Jeremy Micah Corey, Jakob Sawyer Charles Corey, Marlee Kate Miller, John Kevin Grant Miller, Jayci Elizabeth Rajai Corey and Jakob Daniel Garland and one sister inlaw Irene Garland.
