Cemetery, Rice, Stevens Co., Washington.^4,5 He was born on July 2, 1929 at Colville, Stevens Co., Washington.^6,5 He married Frances Joan McKern, daughter of Morse Donnel McKern and Blanche Elizabeth Felts, on June 8, 1952 at Kettle Falls, Stevens Co., Washington.^1,2,3 Jerald David "Jerry" Hirsch died on January 5, 2009 at Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington, at age 79.^6,5 He Jerald “Jerry” Hirsch, a lifetime resident of Kettle Falls and Colville, passed away Jan. 5, 2009 in Spokane at the age of 79. He was born July 2, 1929 in Colville, the son of David Joseph and Agnes Marie Hewitt Hirsch. Jerry is survived by his wife, Ila Hirsch of Colville; one son, Mike Hirsch of Portland OR; two daughters, Kathy Baumann and husband Bob, Weston OR; Barb Jensen and husband Gary, Olympia; two brothers, Ralph Hirsch and wife Cindy, Delta CO; Larry Hirsch and wife Corrine of Kettle Falls; sister Loyla Doran and husband Donald, Blanchard ID. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Fri. Jan. 9 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A graveside service will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Rice. on January 7, 2009.⁵

     Teresa Ann Hirsch was buried at Rice I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rice, Stevens Co., Washington.^5,3 She Teresa Ann Hirsch passed away Dec. 17, in Salisbury, NC. She was born on April 4, 1954 in Colville. The daughter of Jerald and Francis (McKern) Hirsch. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 12 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel. Ash interment will be at the Rice IOOF Cemetery. She was raised in the Rice area and attended school at the Rice Elementary School, graduating from high school in Kettle Falls. After high school, she worked for a time in Spokane before joining the U.S. Army. She served her country for 11 years before receiving a medical discharge. She returned home to the Colville area before moving to North Carolina four years ago. Teresa was a avid reader. She is survived by one son.³ She was born on April 4, 1954 at Colville, Stevens Co., Washington.^5,3,4 She died on December 17, 2004 at Salisbury, Rowan Co., North Carolina, at age 50.^3,5,4

     Ora Harlan Betterton was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California.^3,4 His Social Security Number was 564-34-7513.⁵ He Ora Harlan Betterton, aged 75 years, died at Seaside hospital, Long Beach, Calif., May 27, 1946. His death was the result of a paralytic stroke which occurred just 6 days previous. His daughters Arlyn M. Wheeler and Irma J. Enright were in constant attendance at his beds until the time of his death. He had been employed at the Los Angeles Breakfast Club until a short time before he became ill. At the time of his death he was residing at the home of his daughter Arlyn in Long Beach, Calif. He was the last surviving member of 10 children born to Gardener and Emily J. Betterton, pioneer Iowans. He was the 9th child, and was born in Knoxville on October 4, 1870. On May 5, 1900 he was married to Carrie B. McKern. To this union three children were born. His wife and infant daughter Velma preceded him in death. Besides his two daughters, he is survived by two grandchildren, Richard and Catherine Enright. Last rites were conducted in the "Little Church of the Flowers" at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at Glendale, Calif. The Rev. Mr. Griggs of the central Christian church of Pasadena was in charge of the services.⁴ He was born on October 4, 1870 at Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa.^1,2,4,5 He married Carrie B.      Odessa Madge “Dessie” Johnson was buried at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, One NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa.^3,4 Her Social Security Number was 485-82-8753.² She was born on July 21, 1887 at Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa.^1,2 As of October 15, 1905,her married name was McKern.¹ She married Loren Ray McKern, son of James L. McKern and Eliza Josephine Morse, on October 15, 1905 at Marion Co., Iowa.¹ Odessa Madge “Dessie” Johnson died on March 16, 1977 at Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa, at age 89.^2,4 She Services for Dessie Madge McKern, 89, of 910 Boyd Ave., who died Wednesday at Medical Centers of America, 233 University Ave., of a stroke, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memorial Gardens. A native of Knoxville, Mrs. McKern had lived in Des Moines since 1912. She was a retired sewing instructor for the Roadside Settlement House and a member of the Capitol Hlll Christian Church. Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine McKern, Sylvia Wicker and Helen Dick, all of Des Moines; two grandchhidren, and four great-grandchildren. on March 20, 1977.⁴

     Sylvia Lorene McKern was buried at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, One NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa.¹ Her married name was Wicker.¹ She married Ellis Hawkins Wicker.¹ Sylvia Lorene McKern was born on September 21, 1919 at Iowa.¹ She died on June 4, 2011 at Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa, at age 91.¹ She Sylvia Lorene Wicker, 91, passed away at Union Park Health Services on June 4, 2011. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday June 08, 2011 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 09, 2011 at the funeral home followed by burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Sylvia was born September 21, 1919 to Dessie and Loren McKern. She graduated from East High School and married her junior high sweetheart, Ellis Wicker. Sylvia retired in 1989 from Drake University as the secretary to the vice president of student life. She was a 79 year member of Capitol Hill Christian Church and was also a member of Auburn Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Rich) Oxenford; grandchildren; Kim Oxenford (Shannon Kindred) of Des Moines, Kathryn (Brian) Blackwelder of Arizona and Jake (Sara) Oxenford of Des Moines; 2 great-granddaughters, Lydia and Mallory Blackwelder, and grand nephew David Dick of Avon Lake. Sylvia was preceded and death by her parents; husband; sisters, Helen Dick and Geraldine McKern; and her nephew; Talbert Dick. on June 8, 2011.¹
