Winner of the Bronze Star, he returned to the newspaper and resumed cartooning and began writing weather columns. It was in 1962 that he started "Of All Things." "For most of our readers," Times Executive Editor Robert Haiman said Friday, "Dick Bothwell was the St. Petersburg Times. His local columns wrapped a warm blanket of good humor, nostalgia and common sense around his readers each morning." Haiman went to visit Bothwell's wife at the family's St. Petersburg home Friday. Bothwell in 1947 married fellow Times staffer June Grindstaff. Their son, Don, is a disabled veteran and daughter Leigh has a master's degree from the University of South Florida. Bothwell's body will be cremated, with the National Cremation Society in charge. No memorial service is planned. on January 31, 1981.⁴
