Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Peggy Farley and his beloved wife, Jill on May 11, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Raymond England officiating. Interment will follow at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro. Family visitation will be held from 7 -8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Fisher Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Canaan Farley, Mark Fontz, Jeff Hoover, Kris Fisher and Duke Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be Riley Roach and Pat Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to SPCA of Texas, 362 South Industrial Blvd., Dallas, TX 75207. Born to John David and Laura McCorkle Cole in Asheville, N.C. on May 24, 1935. Began his education at Mars Hill Junior College, Mars Hill, N.C. and graduated from the University of Richmond, Va., where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Received both his master's and doctorate degrees in psychology from the University of Ky. Began teaching at the University of Nebraska in 1964 and for many years directed the clinical psychology training program. Became an emeritus professor in 1997. He was the clinical consultant for the Samaritan Counseling Center from 2001 until 2010. James was a tireless advocate for mental health and humanitarian causes. He was passionate about promoting and upholding professional ethics and representing those that were underrepresented or unheard. His influence on the practice of psychology in Neb. is vast. He was instrumental in developing the present day comprehensive clinical psychology training program at UNL. He played a major role in establishing Neb. licensure for clinical psychologists and was given the first license issued by the State of Neb. He was president of the Nebraska Psychological Association (NPA), was chair of the Legislative Committee, co-chair of the Ethics Committee, and as the NPA representative to the American Psychological Association Council from 2007-2010. James was very involved in research in the areas of dispositional assessment, clinical neuropsychology, forensic psychology, and human sexuality and pioneered courses at UNL in these subjects. In recent years he became involved in helping veterans with PTSD who were facing legal problems. He has received numerous awards, including the University of Neb. Distinguished Teaching Award, the James A. Lake Academic Freedom Award, the Nebraska Psychological Association Teaching Award and Psychologist of the Year Award. In 2009 he was the first recipient of an NPA award that was named for him, the James K. Cole Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2010 he received the UNL Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community, and the Spirit of the Good Samaritan Award from the Samaritan Counseling Center. James was an advocate for many causes outside of his career in psychology. He was president of the NE Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, chairman of the NE Sierra Club and co-chair of the Niobrara Awareness Committee. He fought diligently to protect and preserve the Niobrara River and led countless numbers of students, family and friends on camping and canoe trips to experience its natural beauty. He wrote many published articles relating to saving and preserving the Niobrara Valley and testified before U.S. Senate and House Committees in support of Wild and Scenic River designation for the Niobrara. James was an avid bicyclist and cross-country skier. He rode on BRAN and in the NE State Games and went on many out-of-state biking trips. For over 20 years he and Pat traveled annually to a cross-country ski ranch in Montana. Above all his professional, humanitarian and environmental activisim, his family will remember him most for what a loving human being he was. Even with his many scholarly and professional accomplishments, James placed his highest priority on his family and friends. He was always kind, warm and supportive to those he held dear. He loved without limits, cared deeply, and told legendary stories. He will be greatly missed. James is survived by his wife, Patricia Cole; daughter, Sharon Combs Caravetta and grandsons, Curtis Radke, Carter Radke and James Caravetta of Phoenix, Ariz; sisters Helen Cole Charbonneau of Fairview, N.C. and Jonny Lou Cole Kealhofer of Carrollton, Miss; niece, Jennifer Burton of Phoenix; and countless other "kids" - students he has mentored and inspired throughout his career. He considered himself "adoptive father" to two former students, Dan Ullman and Mary Pipher. Goddaughters are Katie Ullman of Lincoln and Hallie Pritchett Wurth of San Antonio, Texas. A celebration of the life of James Kimbrough Cole will be held on September 19, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. in the Wick Alumni Center, 1520 R Street, Lincoln, Neb. Memorials to the University of NE Foundation for the UNL Psychology Department, 1010 Lincoln Mall, Suite 300, Lincoln, 68508 or to Mars Hill College, P.O. Box 370, Mars Hill, NC 28754. It was his wish that his ashes be scattered by his family on Mt. Pisgah, in his beloved western North Carolina. on September 12, 2010.3

Charbonneau, 84, of 4 Northview Lane, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Charbonneau was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, and was a son of the late Thomas J. and Rosalie Daniels Charbonneau. He was raised in Detroit and served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945, flying in A-20s in the 97th Bomb Group in North Africa. After being wounded and receiving the Purple Heart, he was returned to the United States for recovery, where he met and later married Helen Cole, a member of the Women's Army Corps from Asheville. Together they moved to Asheville in 1946. He attended Asheville-Biltmore College, where he served as editor of the Bluets School Literary Magazine, and later attended the University of Detroit. He worked as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service in Asheville until his retirement in 1976. He was a loyal UNC basketball fan and also loved the diversity of all music. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Helen Cole Charbonneau; three daughters, Helen Rae Charbonneau of Marietta, S.C., Anne Feltham-Charbonneau and her husband, Richard Feltham, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Katherine Lee of Durango, Colo; son, Thomas Cole Charbonneau and his wife, Brenda, of Fairview; two sisters, Violet Barber of Citrus Springs, Fla., and Jill Bolton and her husband, (Ray's lifelong friend) Sam, of Luddington, Mich; seven grandchildren, Heather Rogers Verdino and her husband, Jerry, and Charles Rogers of Columbia, S.C., Warren Feltham, Ned Feltham and Rich Feltham and his wife, Michelle, all of Halifax, and Kimbrough and Leah Charbonneau of Fairview; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Sam, Michael and Jerry Verdino and Daniel and Jessica Feltham; and his pet dog, Woofie. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. John M. Pagel and the Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles will officiate.
