She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Ed Mayhew, and her parents, Thomas and Ethel Petty of Danville, Va. Surviving are her daughters, Kari (David) Taylor of Vinton, Va., and Lisa Mayhew of Bear Creek, NC; special granddaughter, Erin Taylor; her brother-in-law and his wife, Tony Mayhew and Margaret of Bedford, Va; special nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends. She was born in Danville, Va., but Linda and her husband, Ed, were proud to call Vinton home for more than 50 years where they raised their children and made many friends.      Giles Edward "Ed" Mayhew Jr. Giles Edward (Ed) Mayhew Jr., 72, of Vinton, Va., passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was raised in Church Road, Va. (Dinwiddie County). Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Giles and Adele Mayhew; a brother, Michael Craig Mayhew; a sister, Barbara M. Wilson; and loving in-laws, Thomas and Ethel Petty. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 and one half years, Linda; two daughters, Kari Taylor and husband, David, of Vinton, and Lisa Mayhew of Bear Creek, N.C; very special granddaughter, Erin Nicole Taylor; brother, Tony Mayhew and wife, Margaret of Bedford; special nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends. Ed was a 1966 graduate of Virginia Tech and was employed by Federated Insurance Company as a general adjuster for 35 years. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and golfing with his friends and working at Magic City Ford.⁴ He was born on December 29, 1943 at Newport News, Virginia.³ He married Linda Carolyn Petty, daughter of Thomas Edison Petty and Ethel Mae "Jane" McGregor, on June 13, 1965 at South Boston, Halifax Co., Virginia.^1,2,5 Giles Edward "Ed" Mayhew Jr. died on February 4, 2016 at Virginia at age 72.⁴
