     Eugene Blanton Lugar Eugene B. Lugar, 86, of Clearfield, passed away on Tuesday,October 6, 2009 at the Hollidaysburg Veteran's Home, Hollidaysburg, PA. Born on January 16, 1923 in New Castle, VA he was the son of the late Barnett Blanton and Ida Mae (Reynolds) Lugar. He retired from the United States Army in 1976 after 28 years of service and had served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He had worked for the Virginia Railroad in Roanoke, VA and after he retired from the service, he worked for Holy Cross Hospital in Silversrping, MD as a security guard. Mr. Lugar was a life member of the Silverspring American Legion Post No. 41, Siverspring VFW Post No. 2562, a member of Cootie, and played the trumpet with the Silverspring Honor Guard. He is survived by three children: Lawrence Murray of Richmond, VA, Janet McGonigal and her husband, Pete, of Clearfield, PA, and David Murray and his wife, Barbara, of Cynthiana, KY; twelve grandchildren: Cathie Heness and her husband, Deiter, Patrick Murray, Michelle Murray, Elizabeth Phillis and her husband, Daniel, Diana Boal, Adam Murray and his wife, April, Brandon Halley, Derek Halley, and Andrew Murray. He is also survived by six great grandchildren. Mr. Lugar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha E. Lugar whom he married on January 6, 1956 and who passed away on January 9, 1994, two sons, Barry and Gregory Lugar, a step son, Donald Murray, a granddaughter Sandra Murray, and a great granddaughter, Lacey Murray. Funeral services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 8:00 PM with Dr. Randy Willis officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6. and the VFW Post No. 1785 Honor Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Mabry and Virginia B. Mills; brother, Ricky Mabry; and special grandson, Kenneth "Boo Boo" Carter. Surviving is his wife, Bonnie L. Mabry; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbra Mabry; and many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Willie loved NASCAR and collecting coins for his collection, although he was never as happy as when he was playing with his great-grandchildren or just relaxing with family and friends. Although we know he is in a better place he will be missed more than any words can say. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the funeral home. on July 30, 2017.6

He enjoyed membership in Central United Methodist Men, the Salem Kiwanis Club, and the Greenbrier Military Alumni Association. He will be remembered for his involvement in Relay For Life (the hot dog stand), and roasting chestnuts for the Olde Salem Christmas and the Community Christmas Store. He was preceded in death by his parents, Custis and Ruby Bower; and in-laws, the Reverend Frank and Frances Blevins. His surviving family includes his wife, Brenda B. Bower; son, Christopher B. Bower; sister, Mary B. Lotts; brothers-in-law, Frank O. Blevins and wife, Ann, and Ronald G. Blevins and wife, Linda; nephews, Andrew Blevins and wife, Laurie, Ryan Blevins and wife, Michelle, Kevin L. Lotts and wife, Tonya; nieces, Kelly Pittman and husband, Eric, and Kim Janney and husband, Sean; great nieces; a great-nephew; numerous cousins; special friends; Lewis-Gale co-workers; and his General Imports family, who called him "Pops."
