Born Jan. 12, 1944, in Danville, he was the son of James G. Motley Sr. and Rose Marie Hall Motley. Mr. Motley worked as a warehouse clerk for the City of Danville Water and Gas Department. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He married Shirley Tripp Motley on Sept. 1, 1986. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, James "Jamie" G. Motley III of Richmond, Joseph Christopher Motley of Danville, Allen Wayne Blair of Richmond and Mark Stephen Blair of Danville; one brother, Brian Motley of Chatham; five sisters, Jean Pope of Chatham, Vickie Lynn High of Danville, Joann Motley Walker of Chatham, Sandra Motley Driskill of Lynchburg, and Rosemary Meadows of Dry Fork; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, Danville by the Rev. Terry Shultz. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Danville. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, 2025 North Main Street, Danville. Barker Funeral Home of Danville is in charge of the arrangements. on June 21, 2005.
