He married and pampered Barbara Mabry and lived in Alexandria, VA where they raised two sons, Robert and Lyle. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for hunting and fishing. Two of his favorite hobbies were archery and collecting hunting items. Richard loved watching car races. He was known for his quick wit and compassionate heart always willing to help others. Richard was a beloved coach and was known to many in the local youth leagues. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Lyle Mabry, Jr. and Virginia B. Mills, brothers Ricky and William. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara, his two children, Robert and Lyle, and his grandchildren Jason and Jessica. Interment to be held immediately after at Mt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Mabry and Virginia B. Mills; brother, Ricky Mabry; and special grandson, Kenneth "Boo Boo" Carter. Surviving is his wife, Bonnie L. Mabry; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbra Mabry; and many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Willie loved NASCAR and collecting coins for his collection, although he was never as happy as when he was playing with his great-grandchildren or just relaxing with family and friends. "Bob" Bower, of Salem, Va., died on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Lewis-Gale Medical Center where he was the Chief Construction Engineer in 1972 and remained with the hospital until he left in 1993 to form Commonwealth Inspector's Services. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School, University of Maryland, and attended Virginia Commonwealth University and Roanoke College. He enjoyed membership in Central United Methodist Men, the Salem Kiwanis Club, and the Greenbrier Military Alumni Association. He will be remembered for his involvement in Relay For Life (the hot dog stand), and roasting chestnuts for the Olde Salem Christmas and the Community Christmas Store. He was preceded in death by his parents, Custis and Ruby Bower; and in-laws, the Reverend Frank and Frances Blevins. His surviving family includes his wife, Brenda B. Bower; son, Christopher B. Bower; sister, Mary B. Lotts; brothers-in-law, Frank O. Blevins and wife, Ann, and Ronald G. Blevins and wife, Linda; nephews, Andrew Blevins and wife, Laurie, Ryan Blevins and wife, Michelle, Kevin L. She worked at Roanoke College, Village Shoes, Amrheins, Bridal House and Formals, and most recently assisted her son with his car dealership General Imports of Salem. She graduated from Roanoke College. She enjoyed her involvement in The Miss Virginia Pageant and Relay for Life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Bower; her parents, Reverend Frank and Frances Blevins; and in-laws, Custis and Ruby Bower; and her brother, Frank O. Blevins. Her surviving family includes her son, Christopher B. Bower; brother, Ronald G. Blevins and wife, Linda; sisters-in-law, Ann Blevins and Mary C. Lotts; nephews, Andrew Blevins and wife, Laurie, Ryan Blevins and wife, Michelle, Kevin L.
