Paul R. Gates, 36, a druggist, was shot to death Wednesday and H. D. Wilhelm, a pharmacist, was wounded. Collins and Luger both were captured by law enforcement County. Luger died later at hospital about an hour after the shoot-out ended and he was wounded. A third man, not named in Roanoke Arnold Fuller, also was apprehended, and is charged on two felony warrants in Montgomery County jail. Collins was charged with two counts of murder and five other felonies. on December 9, 1975.⁶

     Brenda Gail Fulcher Brenda Gail Lugar, 66, of Troutville, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, surrounded by her children. She was born on November 18, 1950, in Christiansburg. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Barry Lugar, and together they raised three children until his death in 1992. Brenda loved being outdoors, baking and animals. She was a longtime member of Bonsack Baptist Church. Brenda was a very caring wife, mother, daughter and sister who will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Barry Lugar; her father, Dave Fulcher; sister, Teresa Hodges; nieces, Winter and Anah Hodges; and special aunt, Elizabeth Miles. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bryce Lugar, Amanda Noynaert (Nathan) and Sarah Michalski (Kenny); grandson, Mason Michalski; mother, Hazel Fulcher; sisters, Sonja Jecminek (Chuck) and Peggy Bishop (Basil); brother, David Fulcher; and several special nieces and nephews. Bill was born on December 16, 1952 in Welch, WV at Grace Hospital to William (Bill) Anderson, Sr. and Violet (Libby) Anderson. He is preceded in death by his father. Bill is survived by his children Michael Anderson and Avari (Greg) Terry of Roanoke; grandson, Aiden Terry, of Roanoke; mother, Libby Anderson, of Roanoke; brother, David (Desarie) Anderson, of Atlanta, GA; sister, Dianne (Michael) Hurt, of CA; and sister, Nancy (Darrian) Speese-Cole, of Roanoke. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces; uncle, Lonnie (Faye) Cash of Vesuvius, VA; uncle, Rev. Warren Cash of Roanoke; uncle, Pat Cash of Raphine, VA; and uncle, Rev. Don (Shirley) Cash of Raphine, VA and uncle, Robert Anderson of WV. Bill graduated from William Fleming High School in 1970 and was a member of the ROTC. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country. He was well known throughout the Roanoke, Stuarts Draft, Vesuvius, and Waynesboro areas for his excellent work in Heating and Air Conditioning. He loved camping, fishing, hiking, and riding a good motorcycle.
