A native of Keeling, he had lived in Danville for many years and was employed by Dan River Mills for 30 years until his retirement in 1950. Born March 25, 1885, he was the
son of the late Mary Lewis Lovelace and Robert Lewis. He married the former Ossie Newby Dec. 25, 1903. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Pansy Vhite of Keeling, Mrs. Louise Talbott, Mrs. Pricie Whitt, both if Danville; four sons, Ernest Edward Lewis and Hughie Thomas Lewis, both of Danville, Elisha W. Lewis of New York, and Otis Lee Lewis of Durham. N.C. and 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. on June 21, 1962.2

He was first married to Emma Lee Compton who died April 10, 1960, and on September 14, 1964 he was married to Lorene Dalton who survives. In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Hill and Miss Alice Faye Lewis both of Danville, one step-daughter, Mrs. Christine Worley of Rt, 4, Gretna; and two step-sons: Carroll Lee Dalton of Danville and Sanford Dalton of Altavista. Also three sisters, Mrs. Pansie White of Keeling, Mrs. Guy Talbott and Mrs. Pricie Whitt both of Danville, three brothers, H. T. Lewis of Danville; Bill Lewis of New York City and Otis L. Lewis of Durham, 2 grandchildren and 8 step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Swicegood Chapel last Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. James Worley and the Rev. John Finklea. Interment followed in Highland Burial Park. The pallbearers were: Russell Worley, Carroll Dalton, Sanford Dalton, Lawson Compton, Pat Glenn, Richard Compton, Weidon Compton and Bob Keatts. on May 27, 1973.6

The body will be sent to Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville for services and burial. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements. on August 9, 1996.5

Mrs. Talbott is survived by a daughter Loretta Eggleston of Danville; three sons, Billy Talbott of Danville, Gary Talbott of Danville, Robert Talbott of Danville; one sister, Pricie Whitt of Danville; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one daughter, Lorraine Stowe; three brothers and one sister. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. form the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Albert Moser officiating. Interment will the follow to Highland Burial Park. on March 9, 2009.3

Spoon, of Graham; two sons, Charles Lewis, of Durham, and Wayne Lewis, of Oxford; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Talbott and Pricie Whitt, both of Danville, Va; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Clements Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Michael Berryman and the Rev. Dr. Roger Hahn. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 at Clements Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable, or those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 400 Oberlin Rd., Suite 208, Raleigh, N.C. 27605. Graveside rites for Mr. Melvin Ernest Scott, 56, will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Glennview Memorial Park. Family will be at 2311 Hart St. Survivors are sisters, Ms. Betty Jean Scott, Mrs. Mary Harris, and Ms. Martha Scott; and several nieces and nephews. Mildred is survived by two sons, Scott Hill and wife, Tammy of Danville and Tim Hill of the residence, and four grandchildren, Jennifer Arnold and husband, Eric, Julia Hill, and Joey and Deanna Hill. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Alice Faye Lewis and a brother, William Lewis. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Burial Park, Danville with Rev. Jason Barber officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, October 9, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, 3995 Franklin Tpke, Danville and at other times will be at the residence of her son, Scott Hill, 1101 Afton Road, Danville. In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541. on October 9, 2009.4

She was born Dec. 2, 1924 in Pittsylvania County and was 86 years old. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Pansy Lewis White. She was married to the late Aubrey T. Clark. Before moving into Abington Place, she was a resident of the Chastain Home in Halifax. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in South Boston and retired from Tultex. She also enjoyed her many years of volunteering at Halifax Regional Hospital. Survivors include two sons, Aubrey Thomas Clark Jr. and wife Barbara of Keeling and Michael E. Clark of Sutherlin; two daughters, June Trammell and husband Tommy of Keeling and Susan Williams and husband David of Blairs; four grandchildren, Michelle Clark, Chris Owen and wife Melanie, Dale Trammell, and Jeremy Clark and six great grandchildren, Dylan, Hannah, Grayson, Phoenix, Jacksun, and Aston. She was preceded in death by one sister, Velma Hughes and by three brothers, Harold White, Garland White, and Cooper White. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, South Boston with Rev. Larry Linderman officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
