Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family will be at the residence to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today. on February 2, 1999.⁴

She was born June 21, 1931 in Lunenburg County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late William Dave Wallace, Sr. and the late Ellen Maude Biggs Wallace. She was a member of Black Branch Baptist Church in Chase City, owner of Newby’s Trailer Court for 22 years, and a Beautician. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Newby; special friend, William Dix; brother, William David Wallace; sister, Pauline Light; and step-son, Willard Newby. Mary is survived by her son, William “Danny” Aye (Brenda Stallings) of Chase City, VA; step-son, Harold Newby (Louise) of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; two granddaughters, Chelsea Aye Hilsinger (Steve) and Vanessa Aye Williams (Brian); and four great-grandchildren, Kourtney Allgood Smith (Grant), Greyson Hilsinger, Gavin Evans, and Cameron Evans. Mary’s family would like to give a special thank you to her devoted caregivers, Shirley Newton and Helen Pulliam. Newby passed away suddenly at his home December 12, 2007. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Belle Bynam and father, George Harold Newby. He was employed with Reynolds Metals and Kaiser Aluminum for 40 years, and at Bellwood Extrusion plant the last years as a crane operator. He was born and raised in Chase City, Va., where he went to school and graduated. Mr. Newby was a member of the armed services as a general supply specialist for three and a half years. He is survived by his wife, Rita Newby; and two sons, Willard Newby Jr. of Farmville, Va. and Sean Newby of Conway, S.C. His stepmother, Mary Newby; a brother, Harold Newby of Smith Mountain Lake; and a half-brother, Daniel Aye of Chase City, Va. Also several stepsons, stepdaughters, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all, including his constant companion, Peaches, his little Maltese dog. on December 23, 2007.⁶
