Dick was born in Lawrenceville, IL and raised in Willis, VA. He attended a one-room school from first through sixth grade and graduated from Hillsville High School in Hillsville VA. He spent his entire working career in the construction industry. Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968. He received his basic training at Fort Benning, GA and advanced training at Fort Polk, LA. Dick was stationed at Patch Barracks and Robinson Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany where he worked in the post office. Dick also served as an Army Standby Reservist from 1968 to 1971. Following his military service Dick settled in LaPlata, MD. In 1993 Dick started Dickerson Construction, Inc. For the next ten years Dick designed and constructed projects in the Southern Maryland tri-county area. In 2003 Dick and Terri retired and had ten wonderful years living in FL. They were together constantly, enjoyed traveling, and playing lots of golf. In March 2010 Dick was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and has had constant chemotherapy to fight this incurable disease. Dick fought hard to get the most out of each day. He continued to play golf and was determined to maintain his life as close to normal as possible. Dick was truly an inspiration to all his family and friends. When someone asked Dick how he felt, his response was always "I'm fine. There's nothing wrong with me." Dick never wanted anyone to worry about him. He always had a positive attitude and a friendly smile for everyone. Dick is survived by his wife, Teresa Kay (Terri) Dickerson who were blessed to have been married for 30 wonderful years; Daughter Teresa Lynn Peters and her husband Denis from Elliston, VA; Daughter Sharon Renee Ingram and her husband Wendel from Salem, VA; Son Paul Shane Markham and his wife Suze from LaPlata, MD; Son Richard Steven Dickerson from Big Stone Gap, VA; Myra Elizabeth Dickerson from Big Stone Gap, VA; Granddaughter Sarah Jean Morris, her husband Andrew, and great-grandchildren Natalie Jane and Jaxon Andrew from Floyd, VA; Grandson Steven Michael Harris, his wife Brandy, and great-grandchildren Kadence Jeanette, Kayley Jade, and Bristol Lynn from Pawcatuk, CT; Grandson Jacob Randall Harris, his wife Candace, great-grandchildren Dylan Lee and Makayla Leighann and step great-grandchildren Neenah White and Sophie Davis from Draper, VA; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dick and Sharon Menk from Pekin, IL and Sebring, FL. Dick is also survived by 4 nieces, (Heather, Tara, Kathy, Teresa), 1 nephew (Jeff), 4 great-nieces (Patty, Karli, Reagan, Courtney), 7 great-nephews (Joe, Josh, John, Dillon, Dalys, Tyler and Logan), 2 great-great nieces (Shelby and Gabby) and 4 great-great nephews. (Damien, Dacien, Jude, Clayton). Dick is additionally survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins throughout the country. Dick is predeceased by his parents, Elmo Earl Dickerson and Joyce Margaret Johnston Dickerson, and one brother Dwayne Dexter Dickerson. Internment at Trinity Memorial Gardens. on November 12, 2013.2

Born on June 22, 1934, to the late Robert and Ethel Markham in Arcadia, Va., he was a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church, having served in various roles as a faithful servant. He retired from VDOT after forty years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Evelynn (Leslie) Powell; and four brothers, Raymond E. (Louise) Markham, Buford Markham, B.L. "Bunky" Markham, and Melvin Lee (Hilda) Markham. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Hodges Markham; daughter, Mendy Flynn; two grandchildren, Kassie (Ian) Dickson and Brandon Cudworth; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Charlotte Dickson; brother, C.W. "Wilbert" (Peggy) Markham; sister-in-law, Dana Markham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va., where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army. A special thanks to a very special friend and caregiver, Lois Lynch, and to the incredible neighbors and church members for their care and support for the Markham family. on December 22, 2022.2
