In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, The Reverend Charles Hardy Cookman, longtime pastor and Superintendent of the NC District Council of the Assemblies of God. Surviving are two daughters, Carol Pierce (Randy) of Colerain, and Claudia Redd (Skip) of Waxahachie, TX; three sons, Noel Hardy Cookman (Gay) of Aubrey, TX, Charles Wesley Cookman (Sandy) of Fayetteville, NC, and John Calvin Cookman (Amy) of Waxahachie; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.      Garnet Lois Clay Garnet Lois Clay Markham - Meadows of Dan was home where she loved exploring the shops and back roads. She considered herself an "accumulator." She willingly and thoughtfully shared with others above her own needs. She cared deeply for her family and friends, community and co-workers at Laurel Meadows, recording life events and family histories for all in her calendars. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Alva and Violet Clay; mother, Gertrude P. Singer; sisters, Jeanette Dickens Horton and Janet Walker Williams; and nephew, Michael E. Horton. Survivors include her children, Teresa and Denis Peters of Elliston, Va., Sharon and Wendel Ingram of Salem, Va., Paul and Suze Markham of LaPlata, Md. We all are thankful, cherishing the life and lessons shared together. They will miss her humor and that "all knowing, be honest" look from her eyes. Lois loved her grandchildren dearly, Sarah and Andrew Morris, Michael and Brandy Harris,and Jacob Harris. Lois' delight and joy will be shared with her great-grandchildren, Natalie and Jaxon Morris, Kadence, Kayley and Bristol Harris and Dylan and Makayla Harris who made her heart smile.      Richard Elmo Dickerson was buried at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Charles Co., Maryland.^2,3 He was born on December 20, 1943 at Lawrenceville, Lawrence Co., Illinois.^1,3 He married Garnet Lois Clay, daughter of Alva Clay and Gertrude Palmer, on February 20, 1960 at Sparta, Alleghany Co., North Carolina.¹ Richard Elmo Dickerson and Garnet Lois Clay were divorced on September 6, 1968 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ Richard Elmo Dickerson died on November 6, 2013 at Port Saint Lucie, St. Lucie Co., Florida, at age 69.^2,3 He Richard Elmo (Dick) Dickerson, 69, of Port St. Lucie, Florida (formerly from LaPlata, Maryland) passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife on November 6, 2013. Dick was born in Lawrenceville, IL and raised in Willis, VA. He attended a one-room school from first through sixth grade and graduated from Hillsville High School in Hillsville VA. He spent his entire working career in the construction industry. Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968. He received his basic training at Fort Benning, GA and advanced training at Fort Polk, LA. Dick was stationed at Patch Barracks and Robinson Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany where he worked in the post office. Dick also served as an Army Standby Reservist from 1968 to 1971. Following his military service Dick settled in LaPlata, MD. In 1993 Dick started Dickerson Construction, Inc. For the next ten years Dick designed and constructed projects in the Southern Maryland tri-county area. In 2003 Dick and Terri retired and had ten wonderful years living in FL. They were together constantly, enjoyed traveling, and playing lots of golf. In March 2010 Dick was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and has had constant chemotherapy to fight this incurable disease. Dick fought hard to get the most out of each day. He continued to play golf and was determined to maintain his life as close to normal as possible. Dick was truly an inspiration to all his family and friends. When someone asked Dick how he felt, his response was always "I'm fine. There's nothing wrong with me." Dick never wanted anyone to worry about him. He always had a positive attitude and a friendly smile for everyone. Dick is survived by his wife, Teresa Kay (Terri) Dickerson who were blessed to have been married for 30 wonderful years; Daughter Teresa Lynn Peters and her husband Denis from Elliston, VA; Daughter Sharon Renee Ingram and her husband Wendel from Salem, VA; Son Paul Shane Markham and his wife Suze from LaPlata, MD; Son Richard Steven Dickerson from Big Stone Gap, VA; Myra Elizabeth Dickerson from Big Stone Gap, VA; Granddaughter Sarah Jean Morris, her husband Andrew, and great-grandchildren Natalie Jane and Jaxon Andrew from Floyd, VA; Grandson Steven Michael Harris, his wife Brandy, and great-grandchildren Kadence Jeanette, Kayley Jade, and Bristol Lynn from Pawcatuk, CT; Grandson Jacob Randall Harris, his wife Candace, great-grandchildren Dylan Lee and Makayla Leighann and step great-grandchildren Neenah White and Sophie Davis from Draper, VA; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dick and Sharon Menk from Pekin, IL and Sebring, FL. Born on June 22, 1934, to the late Robert and Ethel Markham in Arcadia, Va., he was a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church, having served in various roles as a faithful servant. He retired from VDOT after forty years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Evelynn (Leslie) Powell; and four brothers, Raymond E. (Louise) Markham, Buford Markham, B.L. "Bunky" Markham, and Melvin Lee (Hilda) Markham. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Hodges Markham; daughter, Mendy Flynn; two grandchildren, Kassie (Ian) Dickson and Brandon Cudworth; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Charlotte Dickson; brother, C.W. "Wilbert" (Peggy) Markham; sister-in-law, Dana Markham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va., where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Palmer, a daughter, Rachel Lee Palmer, grandsons, Roger Dale Palmer, I and Sheldon Dean Jones. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Christine Hoffman, Cassie G. Quesenberry; sons, Walter G. Palmer, Roger D. Palmer and wife Peggy, Gary "Mike" Palmer; a sister, Cornelius Flinchum; a brother, George W. Hudgins; sisters-in-law, Arlene Hudgins, Virginia D. Hudgins; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. on June 7, 2002.²

     Rachel Lee Palmer was buried at Wood-Hudgins-Woolwine Cemetery, 3941 Pilot Road, Pilot, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^1,4,7 She was born on August 1, 1936 at Rogers, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^5,1,2,4 She married Donnel Wise Jones, son of Swanson Thomas Jones and Roxie Elizabeth McNeil, on January 30, 1954 at Rogers, Montgomery Co., Virginia.⁵ As of January 30, 1954,her married name was Jones.⁵ Rachel Lee Palmer and Donnel Wise Jones were divorced on March 22, 1963 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.⁸ Rachel Lee Palmer died on October 10, 1975 at Blacksburg, Virginia, at age 39.^1,4,9 She Mrs. Rachel Palmer Jones, 39, of 10 First Street, died in a local hospital Friday night, Oct. 10. Surviving are a son, Sheldon Jones, Christiansburg; a daughter, Miss Peggy Jones, Christiansburg; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Palmer, RFD; Riner; three brothers, Walter G. Palmer, Roger Palmer, Gary Michael Palmer; two sisters, Christine Hoffman, Cessie Howard; and two grandchildren. The funeral was at the graveside in the Hudgins Cemetery near Rogers. on October 21, 1975.⁷

     His Social Security Number was 229-54-9118.⁵ Donald Wayne Cupp was buried at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, Henrico Co., Virginia.^4,6 He was born on April 24, 1942 at Blacksburg, Virginia.^3,4,5 He married Sarah Christine Palmer, daughter of Walter Edward Palmer and Katherine Davis Hudgins, on March 27, 1965 at Blacksburg, Virginia; Donald married for a second time on Dec 15, 1967 in Richmond, VA apparently without ever divorcing his first wife until 1994.¹ Donald Wayne Cupp and Sarah Christine Palmer were divorced on March 30, 1994 at Floyd Co., Virginia.² Donald Wayne Cupp died on May 10, 2002 at Melbourne, Brevard Co., Florida, at age 60.^4,5 He CUPP, Donald Wayne, of Blacksburg, died Friday, May 10, 2002 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla. due to sustained injuries from a go-cart accident on March 30, 2002. He was born April 24, 1942 in Blacksburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Robert, Roger, Ronnie Cupp and families; two daughters, Sheila, Debbie and families; his mother, Catherine Cupp of Christiansburg, Va; four brothers, Ronald Cupp and family of Blacksburg, Va., Mike, Roger, Tony Cupp and families of Christiansburg, Va; five sisters, Peggy Saunders and family of Charlotte, N.C., Patsy Bentley and family of Radford, Va., Judy and Charles Kirk of Indian Valley, Va., Diane and Chris Poff of Christiansburg, Va., Cathy Gillenwater and family of Christiansburg. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Gardens. on May 15, 2002.⁴

     Gary Michael "Mike" Palmer was buried at Huffville Union Church Cemetery, 1078 Huffville Road, NE, Terrys Fork, Floyd Co., Virginia.^3,4 He was born on July 11, 1948 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^1,2,4 He married Shirley Margaret Boley on April 7, 1973 at Pilot, Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Gary Michael "Mike" Palmer and Shirley Margaret Boley were divorced on June 5, 1980 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.⁶ Gary Michael "Mike" Palmer married Reba Ann Olinger on July 6, 1980 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Gary Michael "Mike" Palmer died on August 21, 2019 at Huffville, Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 71.^3,4 He Gary Michael (Mike) Palmer, 71, of Huffville, Va., passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at home. He attended Huffville United Methodist Church for the last 15 years. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Katherine Palmer; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Reba Palmer; son, Patrick Palmer and wife, Julia; grandchildren, Alexandra Worrell, Angel Cardewell, Sarah, Katrina and Jacob Snider; brothers, Roger and Walter Palmer; sister, Cassie Quessenberry; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Interment will follow in Huffville Cemetery. on August 23, 2019.³
