A native and lifelong area resident, he was the son of the late Roy Wesley Butterworth Sr. and Rachel Poff Butterworth. He was employed as a paving supervisor with L.H. Sawyer Paving Company for over 40 years and was truly the hands that paved Roanoke. John, being hard headed and right 99% of the time, taught his children lots of lessons and common sense. He enjoyed Hunting Fishing and NASCAR. Carneal, Jr. “Bobby;” brother, Paul Wayne Thomas; baby brother, Ralph; and baby sister, Sharon. Sara is survived by her mother, Clara Ferguson; three sisters: Louise, Ellen, and Diane; three brothers: Dennis, Danny, and Donnie. Sara was beloved wife to Wayne Leech; beloved mama to Sara Jacqueline Carneal, Sandra Renee Jones; son, William Wayne Leech, Jr; daughters-in-law: Crystal Leech and Christie Leech; son-in-law, Ronnie Jones. Sara is a beloved Nana to Ronald “Alijah” Everson, Maddie Carneal, Joey Leech, Joshua Leech, Christopher and Matthew Jones, Corey and Hue Everson, Logan, Ryan, Nevaeh, and Sydney; great-grandchildren: Jayden Gehmie, Josiah Wilkerson, Virginia, Sadie, Brixton, Hudson, and Thornton Leech, Katielynn, Annalee, and Lillian James. Additionally, the family would like to extend a special thanks to Johnny Burrell for the exception care and comfort he gave to Sara. Sara grew up in Vinton. She was an amazing seamstress and during her career, she worked at Kenrose, Oak Hall Cap and Gown, and RJ Whitaker Manufacturing where she held the position of “Head Floor Lady and Time Study.” Sara also worked as a nurse at Friendship Manor and Lewis Gale Medical Center in addition to private nursing. Sara was a devoted loving daughter, wife, Mama, and Nana. She was and exceptional seamstress and cook. When it came to sewing, she could make just about anything: from dresses to tops, shorts, Trico lingerie, jackets, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, and satin pillows. Sara and Wayne loved nature and were avid campers and dog lovers. Sara touched the hearts of those who knew her and will be sadly missed by her beloved family and friends. She will forever remain in our hearts. He was the best auto body man in the business. Upon his retirement Wayne and Sara loved nature, were avid campers, dog lovers, together they raised "Yorkees, favorites being Betty Jean, Teddy Bear, Baby, Tweetie and Jimmy. Wayne was an exceptional, caring, loving husband, daddy and brother and Papa. He touched the hearts of those who knew him; he will be sadly missed by his family and friends, for he will forever remain in their hearts. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. on July 13, 2005.7
