Wood, 75, of Markle, died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 26, 2006) at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Wood was a 1949 graduate of Lafayette Central High School in Allen County. She worked as a cook at the Markle Health Care for several years and was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wood was born July 17, 1931, in Allen County to Clarence and Cecelia Gibson Roebuck. Her first marriage was to Billy A. Stephens on Aug. 11, 1951. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1963. Her second marriage was to Harold E. Wood on Aug. 19, 1967. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Roger Stephens of Huntington and Bill Stephens of North Manchester; a daughter, Diane Fisher of Temecula, Calif; a stepson, Harold E. Wood II of Markle; a stepdaughter, Earlynn Worster of Warren; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn "Pap" Roebuck of Yoder; and two sisters, Phyllis Kreigh of Roanoke and Doris Dull of Fort Wayne. Three brothers, Harold Roebuck, Dale Roebuck, and Don Roebuck, and three sisters, Marjorie Roebuck, Virginia Mettert, and Evelyn Fisher, preceded her in death. Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kathie Jones officiating. Interment will be at the Markle Cemetery. Preferred memorials are contributions to the Markle United Methodist Church care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle, IN 46770. on October 31, 2006.2

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary Chitwood Stephens; brother, John Marvin (Chuck) Stephens II; father, John Marvin Stephens (John Henry); and mother, Evelyn Peters Stephens. Bill was a well known high school athlete. He attended Jefferson and Patrick Henry High Schools where he excelled in football, wrestling and track and field. He later went on to Clemson University where he played football. Bill was also well known in regard to his involvement in high school officiating (basketball/football) and fast pitch softball (Oak Hall Caps). He was an avid golfer, participating on several Hunting Hills Country Club Hall of Fame teams. Bill enjoyed SCCA sports car racing and on occasion modified vehicles to create memorable sports cars. He had the drive to pursue many diverse business ventures. From selling class rings for Jostens in the 70's to participating in the growth of Oak Hall Cap and Gown in the 80's to owning and operating a specialty car dealership (General Imports) in the 90's and finally fulfilling his life long dream of opening Tank's Bar-B-Que in 2002. His civic involvement included Chairperson of the Roanoke Valley MS Society and Roanoke Civic Center Commission. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Lynn Stephens Wright, Anne Stephens Craig and their husbands, Douglas R. Wright and Andrew F. Craig; sister, Virginia Morton and husband, Vincent. Also surviving are Bills (Poppies) five beloved grandchildren, Rachael Elizabeth Wright, Justin Douglas Wright, Natalie Rose Craig, William Thomas Wright and Caroline Grace Craig; and several cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend very special thanks to Nellie Barnes, John Trumbo, Burt and Melinda Albert, Carlton Wasky, Joyce Williams, Nancy Larson and the Bower family. They would also like to thank the staff on the 2nd floor at Richfield Retirement Community and the staff on the cardiac wing of Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital for their wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. Phillip Bushkar, Dr. Stephen Harris and Dr. Jeff Fleisher (Va. Beach). Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on December 6, 2007.2

     Her Social Security Number was 230-60-3664.3 Rosemary Smith Chitwood was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.2 She was born on September 17, 1941 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,3,2 As of June 13, 1964,her married name was Stephens.1 She married James William "Bill" "Tank" Stephens, son of John Marvin Stephens Jr. and Evelyn Mary Peters, on June 13, 1964 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,4,2 Rosemary Smith Chitwood died on September 17, 2003 at Virginia at age 62.3,2 She STEPHENS, Rosemary Chitwood, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord on her 62 nd birthday, Wednesday, September 17, 2003, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Irna Chitwood and her mother-in-law, Evelyn P. Stephens. Surviving are her loving husband of 39 years, Bill "Tank" Stephens; her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lynn and Doug Wright of Roanoke and Anne and Andrew Craig of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Rachael, Justin, and Will Wright, Natalie and Caroline Craig; a sister, Jane Chitwood Halsey of Independence, Va; a brother, Joseph Chitwood of Roanoke; four nephews and three nieces. Also remembered are special friends, Susan Dixon, Jenny Litos, Kaye Hylton, and Kay Lanter, all of Roanoke. Rosemary "Rosie" was a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church for over thirty years and taught Sunday School for a number of years. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the people who have cared for Rosemary during her illness, Nellie Barnes, Dr. Timothy Hormel, the loving staff at the Joseph C. Thomas Center, the Recovery and Care Center at Richfield, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Many thanks to the Alzheimer's Association for their love and support. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2003, at Oakey's South Chapel with Dr. Tom Stocks officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's South Chapel (989-3131). on September 19, 2003.2
