Metta Emogene "Jean" Harper was buried at Staats Cemetery, Clendenin, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.3 She Metta Emogene “Jean” Elmore, 85, of Clendenin, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, October 5, 2014, at home after a long illness. Jean was the daughter of the late Glay and Annie (Jones) Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Opal “Pappy” M. Elmore; infant son, Charles Randall Elmore; brother, James Curtis Harper; sisters, Mary Frances Jones, and Phyllis Catherine Harper. Jean and Opal “Pappy” Elmore were joined in marriage at Wellford in Roane County on December 26, 1948, officiated by Rev. J. Earley Abbott. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before his passing in September of 1999. Jean was a Christian and previously attended the Clendenin Advent Christian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister whose life revolved around her family. She loved to cook, garden, and quilt, decorate her home, making visitors and family welcome. Jean is survived by her sons, Roger M. Elmore, and wife Betsy, of St. Albans, Timothy M. Elmore, and wife Terri, of Spencer; sister, Virginia Hollis of Charles Town; grandchildren, Amy Withrow and husband Damon, Gretchen Elmore, and Thomas Elmore; great grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth Withrow, Natalie Lynn Withrow, Damon Scott Withrow and Jacob Shawn Withrow. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean’s funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Matics Funeral Home in Clendenin with Pastor Barry Moll officiating. Burial will be at Statts Cemetery on Gabe Road in Clendenin. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm.3 She was born on September 20, 1929 at Roane Co., West Virginia.1,4 As of December 26, 1948,her married name was Elmore.1 She married Opal Melvin "Pappy" Elmore, son of Samuel Arthur "Buck" Elmore and Ossie O. Bea retired from the University of Charleston with 25 years of service and was a former Herbert Hoover High School cook. After retirement, Bea and Raymond enjoyed life to the fullest together, always looking for the estate sales, yard sales and glassware bargains. She always was so proud to show her bargains to all. Bea loved to cook. "If she knew you were coming, she'd have baked a cake or food, but no matter, she'd just fix it and send it to you later. Bea was like that, always giving, loving and was genuine as the proverbial salt of the earth." (Sandy Wells in The Charleston Gazette, Nov. 3, 1997.) Bea was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who will be sorely missed. The family would like to give a special "thanks" to Hospice and Bea's very special friend, Macel Parker. To all who brought food and cared for Bea during these past few weeks, a very special "thanks." Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at the Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
