He made this transition at the exemplary Virginia Veterans Care Center while holding the hand of his beloved wife of 45 years, Audra Metz Poage. Ira was born on August 28, 1933 in Roanoke County to Walter and Alice Muse Poage. Ira served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was wounded while in Suma, Japan. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Salem, VA. and unfortunately had to retire in 1975 due to his military disabilities. He was a member of Haran Baptist Church where he worshipped the Lord. Audra and the family would like to express many thanks to the wonderful Virginia Veterans Care Center that helped him through his many illnesses during his stay there.
