She was a native of Abingdon Va., and was member of Coal City Church of God. Mrs. Cole and her husband, Ira, operated Cole's Grocery in Coal City. Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Mrs. Betty Kelley of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Barbara Kelley and Mrs. Sue Graham, both of Coal City; sisters, Mrs. Lucy Marshall of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Eliza Kile of Petersburg, Mrs. Lockie Roark and Mrs. Leathie Farly, both of Abingdon, Va., Mrs. Josie Howell of Bel Air, Md; two grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Coal City Church of God with the Rev. James Compton officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Keyser-Bryant Funeral Home, Beckley. on July 11, 1973.2

     Billie Johnston Davis was born on September 24, 1933 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.3,2 She died on June 9, 2007 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 73.2,3 She Billie J. Davis, former Kanawha County Schools' teacher and counselor, of Charleston, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, in Charleston. She was the daughter of the late William A. Davis Jr. and the late Garnet Macile Davis. She was born in Charleston, was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Morris Harvey College, and had a master's degree in counseling from West Virginia University. She began her career by teaching mathematics at Spring Hill Junior High School, then moved to Dunbar Junior High School as part of a pilot program to begin counseling programs in Kanawha County schools. She also was a counselor at Ben Franklin Career and Technical Education Center. Miss Davis was named in "Who's Who in American Colleges," several other "Who's Who" categories as an educator, was the recipient of the "Anne Maynard Award" in counseling, was named "American School Counselor of the Year for Junior High/Middle Schools," and was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Dunbar Lions Club. She served as an officer in many organizations, such as Phi Delta Kappa, Alpha Delta Kappa, Phi Lambda Tau, Kanawha County School Counseling Association, West Virginia Counseling Association, American Counseling Association, NEA, WVEA, and KCEA. She conducted a retirement workshop for Kanawha County Schools' Employees for many years as the chairman of the Employee Welfare Committee and she served as chairman of legislative committees for many organizations. She was a citizen member of the West Virginia Legislative "Public Education Study Commission" and the West Virginia Legislative "Commission on Juvenile Law." She was appointed by the governor of West Virginia to represent educators at the inauguration of President George Herbert Walker Bush. She was recognized by both the West Virginia Senate and the West Virginia House of Delegates with proclamations for being named "American School Counselor of the Year." She is survived by one sister, Joan Davis Wilkinson of Greenville, S.C; brothers, James A. Davis of Dallas, Texas, Robert L. Davis of Houston, Texas, Thomas E. Davis of Westminster, Colo; three nieces; nine nephews; and 27 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a niece, Debra Lynn Davis. There will be no visitation. Cremation and scattering of ashes will be private. on June 10, 2007.2

     Sandra Carol "Sandy" Pendell was born on August 16, 1938 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1 As of June 13, 1956,her married name was Davis.1 She married Robert Lewis "Bob" Davis, son of William Andrew Davis Jr. and Garnet Macile Johnston, on June 13, 1956 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia; The WV marriage record has a marriage date of Jun 14, 1956.1 Sandra Carol "Sandy" Pendell died on September 2, 2004 at Houston, Harris Co., Texas, at age 66.1 She Sandra (Sandy) Carol Pendell Davis, 66 years young, beloved and cherished wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, friend died peacefully at home with her family around her, Thursday, September 2, 2004 after a brief, but valiant, battle with cancer. While her family and friends mourn the loss of a life cut much too short, Sandy felt blessed to have packed so much living into the years she had. She embraced life with an energetic spirit, touching many lives and hearts in the process. Especially dear to her heart was her volunteer work at Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest the past 16 years. During this time, she served as President of the Auxiliary, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, was a member of the Memorial Hospital System Board, and was currently Recording Secretary of the Texas Association of Hospital Auxiliaries. Sandy also served on the Steering Committee of KINDERx Clinic. In addition, she worked for seven years as a Continental Airlines Ambassador, and was an active member of the Preceptor Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Sandy traveled every chance she got and loved bowling, bunco, gambling trips, her Friday card game group, and the Red Hat Society and that was in her "spare" time. Always a "people-person", Sandy spoiled her family and treasured friends. Sandy was born in Charleston, WV on August 16, 1938. Some 12 years later, she met Robert L. (Bob) Davis. The two became high school sweethearts and were married June 13, 1956 - a true love match for 48 years. In addition to the love of her life, Sandy is survived by her daughter, Debra Lynn Davis; sons, Mark Steven Davis and wife, LouAnn, and Jeffrey Scott Davis and his wife, Renee; five grandchildren she adored - Steven, Scott, Laura, Jennifer, and Amanda (Lou) Davis; her parents, Harold and Myrtle Pendell; her brother, Harold (Butch) Pendell II, and his wife Vicki; Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Billie Davis, Jim and Shirley Davis, Tom and Elaine Davis, and Joan and Ed Wilkinson; many nieces and nephews; godson, Will Dearman; and a host of friends - each of whom she counted as an extra blessing in her life. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to these friends for their love, care and support during this time, as well as, the 12th floor staff at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Dr. Kirk Heyne and his staff. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2004 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer. Funeral Services will be the following morning, Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 10:00 A.M., in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Sandy requested donations to be made to MHHSW Auxiliary, 7600 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77074 or Friends of TAHA, 1608 Seaboard, Midland, TX 79705. on September 4, 2004.1
