They made their home in Terra Bella where they raised their 2 sons Joel and Michael. Evelyn was educated in Oregon and graduated valedictorian from Airlie High School. She pursued further education at Porterville College and Fresno State College. She was the social editor of the weekly newspaper The Terra Bella News. She was the Tulare county branch librarian for the Terra Bella Library until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, a 53 year member of Court Regina Coeli #1521, Catholic Daughters of America, a member of Terra Bella Woman's Improvement Club, Terra Bella Rose Garden Club, Tulare County Historical Society in which she served as a Director for 20 years, member of Alta Mira Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, member of Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers and member of Polk County Oregon Historical Society. Evelyn was an avid genealogist and historical researcher. She was the author of 4 family histories and was working on her 5th. She also carried a wide correspondence with family, friends and fellow researchers. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening, working at crafts and caring for her pets. Everybody fondly knew her as "Granny". She would cook big holiday meals and everyone was welcomed. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 51 ½ years Elmer Carothers in 1992. Evelyn leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons Joel Carothers of Porterville and Michael Carothers of Terra Bella, 10 grandchildren and many great and great- great grandchildren. A Rosary will be held on Monday, November 15 2010 at 6:00 pm at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd chapel. Mass will be on Tuesday, November 16 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Anne's Catholic Church followed by interment at Vandalia Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Funeral and Cremation Service, 195 North Hockett, Porterville. 559-784-6485. on November 13, 2010.1

He played Santa at the Kirkwood Mall for the past five years and the Easter Bunny for two years. He also was an avid bowler. Robert was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Lincoln. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; one daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Buck Ramsey, Ione, Calif; three sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Sandy, and Danny, all of Concord, Calif., and Bill, Redding, Calif; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Jan and Harry Lambrecht, Mandan; one granddaughter, Trudy, Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jacque and Dude Ward, Oregon; and one sister, Noreen Pritchat, Spokane, Wash. He was preceded in death by one son, Pfc. Robert W. Ward; and his parents. Due to his love of children, the family prefers memorials to North Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 30, at the graveside in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, conducted by Rev. Clarence G. Dishman. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Virginia May Lodge #38 AF & AM. Friends may call any time Wednesday after noon at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on January 29, 1997.2
