Big Horn County Attorney Robert Wilson said the man's body was identified as Curtis Monday. The decomposed bodies of Curtis and Mrs. Cosgrove; who had been missing since April, were found Sunday afternoon in her car parked in a ravine northwest of Hardin. The bodies were brought to Billngs Monday for autopsies. A .22-cal. automatic pistol was found in the car, Wilson said, but could not be immediately deermined whether the gun had been fired. Wilson said it was impossible or investigators to determine cause of death until autopsies are done. He said a decision regarding an inquest rested on the pathoglst's findings. Yellowstone County sheriff's deputies who went to the scene after the bodies were found Sunday identified the car as Mrs. Cosgrove's. They said the woman's body was found in the front seat, and the man's in back on the rear foorboards. Hunters Find Car - Grouse hunters came upon the the grey and white automobile in a deep ravine about five miles from the U.S. Highway 87 turnoff to Ballantine. Officials said the car was situated in such a way that it could not be seen from the road. Mrs. Cosgrove, who taught at the Scandia School near Sheperd, lived alone in a Billings apartment at 3303 4th Ave. N. She was reported missing when she failed to report at school April 16, her fiftieth birthday. Neighbors told sheriff's deputies she was seen driving away from the apartment about 7:15 a.m. that Tuesday morning. This was her usual departure time. The reports said Mrs. Cosgrove was driving and a man was sitting in the back seat. A motorist recognized her car that same morning at the junction of U.S. Highway 10 and U.S. 87, deputies said. Again a man was thought to be in the back seat. Big Horn County Attorney Wilson said Curtis was identified by tattoos on his hand. Wilson said Curtis' widow, Clara, of Miles City, had been notified of the death. Yellowstone officials said Curtis was convicted of bigamy in Colprado in 1948, and sentenced to one to two years in Colorado State Penitentiary in Canon City, Colo. He had been in the Billings area in recent years, officials said. It is believed that he is originally from Racine, Wis. Mrs. Cosgrove was born in Worden, April 16, 1913, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton C. Reed. She lived in the Billings area most of her life, attending Worden schools and graduating from Eastern Montana College. She was married to George S. Cosgrove in Worden, June 28, 1940. He died Nov. 25, 1942. Mrs. Cosgrove had been a teacher since the middle 1930s. She was a member of the Ballantine Congregational Church and the Order of Eastern Star Jephtha Chapter of Worden. Survivors include her parents of Ballantine; four brothers, Charles Reed of Savage, Minn, Robert Reed of Worden, Thomas Reed of 323 Bench Blvd., and John Reed, a member of the U.S. Navy; and three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Thompson of Renton, Wash., Mrs. Marian James of South Billings Blvd. and Mrs. Robert McCullough, 4092 Rosebud Lane.
