David Thomas Sarratt was buried at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner Road, Suffolk, Virginia.7,8,5 He David T. Sarratt, November 30, 1946 - July 21, 2017. SUFFOLK – On July 21, 2017, David T. Sarratt (70 yrs. old) joyfully met his Lord & Savior whom he longed to see. On that day, his “baby” daughter, Rebecca “Becky” S. Cuci Moore no doubt rushed to him as he entered heaven’s gates excitedly exclaiming “Daddy!”, as she had not seen him since she had preceded him in June 2013. Dave was a man of deep faith. He trusted God’s promise of eternal life for all who believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood on a cross to save us from sin and that Jesus was buried, arose and ascended to heaven. Dave is home, content in Jesus. AMEN! Praise the Lord, our God. On his arrival, Dave was also united with his parents, Orville C. Sarratt and Mary Conner Lowe; three grandbabies, Amanda, Benjamin and Audrey Shoemaker; grandparents, Ira Shelton Conner and Ida Conner; parents-in-law, Grady & Eudell Roland Pinnell; dear friend and missionary, Fred Stoll who recently arrived in heaven’s glory with a “Well done, my faithful servant.” Dave graduated from Deep Creek High in Chesapeake, VA. Let’s just say to see the Hornets 1965 yearbook! He continued his athletic skills through the years, one time joining his daughter in running the Chicago Marathon. Last Friday morning, his heart ushered him on into heaven – he ran into the arms of Jesus while on the treadmill. He served the people of this U.S.A. in the U.S. Air Force in two enlistments; in the first, he and his brothers, Louis and Arnold Sarratt, simultaneously served in Southeast Asia and the Mid-East during the Vietnam era. Upon his return to the States and duty at Robins AFB, Georgia, he met and proposed in five weeks to a Georgia peach who worked with him in support of the SAC Wing’s B52 bombers and KC-135 tankers that were used in the Vietnam War. She became the love of his life and wife of 47 years. Dave was a hard-working man, one to be counted on and definitely not a slackard, who took on all jobs with equanimity, no matter the task. Self-sufficient and multi-talented, he built, almost entirely by himself, a wonderful log home for his wife and daughters with blood, sweat and tears late into the nights while he was working days at GE. It has accommodated friends and strangers through the years since 1987, sometimes for extended stays, to be their home in the house that Dave built. In that giving spirit, Dave more than shared in the care of Ann’s mother in their home for several years until her passing at age 101, while also caring for his daughter the last two years of her life. What a man. Dave so loved all his family. He wasn’t an expressive person. He just quietly loved you. The granddaughters were the apple of his eye, after his wife and daughters. He took time with them as babies to feed them, rock them, take naps with them, read books with them and as they got older, to play board games, hit a tennis ball, ride them in the trailer behind the lawnmower, and build a fire in the yard to toast marshmallows with them. The surviving granddaughters are Laken Cuci, and Alexis and Cara Shoemaker. In addition to his wife, Ann Pinnell Sarratt, Dave is survived by his daughter, Denise Shoemaker and husband Chuck; step-mother, Jeannette Sarratt of Norfolk; two brothers, Louis Sarratt and wife Sandy and Arnold Sarratt and wife Jenny; sister, Mary Lowe Ange and husband Cliff; and former sisters-in-law, Georgia Sarratt Alford and Mary Sarratt; uncle and aunt, Joseph Arlington Conner and Lorraine; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews; and not least, Grandpa’s best-dog-ever, Lila; and a not-so-favored 17-yr. old cat, Scuzzy, who he named!! His wife, Ann, considered herself very blessed by the Lord to have a husband like Dave. His daughter, Denise, wants you to know that he was a Godly example to her (also to her sister, Becky). Daddy was very proud of Denise for her strength and faith, as well as of her husband, Chuck, during the care and death of their three babies and raising two other daughters, and difficulty of the too-soon home-going of her sister and only sibling, Becky, in June 2013. He was so proud of Denise for her grit and determination to go to nursing school later in life; and of Becky for raising a young daughter and for going back to school to advance her career, prior to being diagnosed with melanoma lung and brain cancer that took her life. My husband, now you are “happy in Jesus” as you told a waitress once when she informed you that it was happy hour at the restaurant. I loved you when I met you, love you now and always will. My one and only. Burial will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors.5 He was born on November 30, 1946 at Norfolk, Virginia.2,7,8 He married Ann Pinnell circa 1970.5 David Thomas Sarratt died on July 21, 2017 at Suffolk, Virginia, at age 70.7,8,5
