Helen F. Schlumpf1,2,3
F, b. May 3, 1928, d. January 29, 2016
Helen F. Schlumpf Helen Iddings peacefully went home to our Lord on Friday January 29th, 2016. She was 87 years old. Helen was born in Tacoma Washington on May 3rd, 1928 to Walter and Freda Schlumpf. She grew up in Kent Washington, attending school there and graduating from Kent High School in 1946. She married Edward Iddings on May 10th, 1952. They spent the next 63 together. Growing up on a dairy farm as she did gave Helen a great appreciation for the outdoors and gardening. She loved nothing more than spending time tending her flowers or teaching her daughters, daughter in law and granddaughters the art of canning. The varieties and abundance of what she canned every year was amazing. Some of the families' fondest memories are of gatherings where four generations joined together for the annual sauerkraut canning, an art passed on to Helen from her mother in law Gladys Iddings. If you could grow it Helen could can it. Helen also loved to travel and see the world. Switzerland, Australia and China were among the many places she and Ed visited. She was a 40 year veteran volunteer at Valley Medical Center in Renton. She ultimately achieved her goal of having her name permanently put on the "Volunteer Wall" in the hospital entrance as a result of giving in excess of 5000 hours of her time over the years. Many of Helen's summer days were spent at the family cabin on Lake Tapps. Although not a swimmer herself, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren learn to swim and ski and fish. The annual family Fourth of July party was always one of the highlights of her year. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ed Iddings, Renton WA. She is also survived by her sisters, Louise Hansen of Milton, WA and Linda (Keith) Kimball of Orting. Helen is also survived by four children, Thomas (Pati) of Renton, WA, Susan(Tom) Waggoner Kent, WA, Cathleen Iddings, Renton, WA and Cynthia (Tom) Mortimer, Auburn, WA. She also has six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Freda Schlumpf, her brother James Schlumpf and her daughter Charlene.3 She was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Renton, King Co., Washington.4 She was born on May 3, 1928 at Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington.3,4 As of May 10, 1952,her married name was Iddings.1 She married Edward Joseph Iddings, son of Edwin Fulton "Ed" Iddings and Gladys Ione Dunham, on May 10, 1952 at King Co., Virginia.1,2,3 Helen F.
