Tommy Edward Crowder On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Tommy E. Crowder passed away at the age of 73. Tommy was born on March 13, 1946, to Thomas and Helen Crowder of Fincastle, Virginia, who instilled him a hard work ethic. On November 27, 1964, he married Mary Jane Turner. In the early years of marriage, Tommy worked for Rainbow Bread Company, N & W Railway, TC Logging, and soon settled into driving commercial trucks as well as tour buses. When his son was born, he worked for Kroger Warehouse in Salem so he wouldn’t have to be away from home. But after ten years, that yearning for driving the big trucks won, and for the rest of his working years, that is how he provided for his family. Prior to retiring, he had been an Owner-Operator and took so much pride in having his own truck. He was a man of enormous energy and often Worked two jobs as well as managed to play golf regularly where he had such great lasting friendships. Through all of his busyness, there was one quality that manifested itself on every level of his life, and that was loyalty. If “Big T” was in your corner, you were protected for life. And as to his wife and children, he was that and more. Tommy is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, and his son, Joey, and Misty (who we called our “Daughter by heart”) as well as four of the most amazing grandchildren, Lyndsey Nicole, McKenna May, Aaron May-Crowder and Logan May-Crowder. Also surviving is his two biological brothers, Bill Crowder and Roy Crowder. He referred to Mary Jane’s brothers as his. Tom, Joe, and David Turner and their families were extended family, and he often spoke of Lisa Whitely, Robin Arnholt, and Nikki Boblett as his adopted daughters. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas and Helen Crowder. The death of his daughter, Catrina Lynne in 2017 was no doubt the most difficult thing for him on his earthly journey. When we all meet at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel of Life, it would Be Tommy’s hope that we smile more than cry. He did.2 He was buried at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia.2 He was born on March 13, 1946 at Fincastle, Botetourt Co., Virginia.4,2,3 He married Mary Jane Turner, daughter of Thomas Buford Turner and Mary Frances Poff, on November 27, 1964 at Roanoke, Virginia.4,2 Tommy Edward Crowder died on October 17, 2019 at Virginia at age 73.2
