     Alice Marie Taylor Alice Marie Vernon, 82, of Springfield, died Sunday January 14, 2018 at Springfield Heights Assisted Living. Her remains were cremated and no services are scheduled at this time. Mrs. Vernon was born February 1, 1935 in Covington, VA to the late William Alton and Grace Belle Merritt Taylor. She was a retired Welcome Center Travel Hostess with the State of Virginia, was a member of Covington Baptist Church in Covington, VA, and had a great love for cats. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Loderick Vernon, her brother: William A. Taylor, Jr., and by her sisters: Mary Taylor Dressler and Shirley May Taylor. Mrs. Vernon is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Rayburn Franklin and Janet Alfred, Jr., of Covington, VA, her daughter and son-in-law; Kathy and Doug Williams of Springfield, her sister: Elsie Lee Slough of Richmond, VA, her grandchildren: Marcie Alfred, Emily Rickett, and Jessica Walton, and five great grandchildren. The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to the staff of Springfield Heights for the care and love shown to Mrs. Vernon during her years of living there.⁴ She was born on February 1, 1935 at Covington, Alleghany Co., Virginia.^2,3,4 As of November 29, 1952,her married name was Alfred.² She married Rayburn Franklin Alfred Sr. on November 29, 1952 at Covington, Alleghany Co., Virginia.² Alice Marie Taylor and Rayburn Franklin Alfred Sr. were divorced on May 31, 1967.³ As of June 5, 1967,her married name was Bilbro.² Alice Marie Taylor married Barris Lee Bilbro on June 5, 1967 at Roanoke, Virginia.² Alice Marie Taylor and Barris Lee Bilbro were divorced on January 21, 1970 at Alleghany Co., Virginia.³ As of November 5, 1983,her married name was Vernon.² Alice Marie Taylor married Loderick Jennings Vernon on November 5, 1983 at Botetourt Co., Virginia.^2,4 Alice Marie Taylor died on January 14, 2018 at Springfield, Robertson Co., Tennessee, at age 82.⁴

     Rayna Spessard Vernon was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Waiteville, Monroe Co., West Virginia.¹ He was born on November 26, 1907 at Flat Top, Mercer Co., West Virginia.¹ He married Pauline Virginia Lee, daughter of Arthur Marion Lee and Bertha May Crowder, on September 3, 1927 at Bristol, Virginia.^2,3 Rayna Spessard Vernon died on September 8, 1967 at Waiteville, Monroe Co., West Virginia, at age 59.¹

     Bernard Bruce Vernon was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Waiteville, Monroe Co., West Virginia.^2,4 He married Reba Butterworth.^2,4 Bernard Bruce Vernon was born on December 30, 1932 at Virginia.^3,2,5 He died on January 14, 2006 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 73.^2,4,5 He Bernard Bruce Vernon, 73, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents Rayna and Pauline Vernon; a sister, Marion June Wade and a brother Rayna Ronald Vernon. He is survived by his wife, Reba Butterworth Vernon and a son, Bruce Timothy Vernon of New Castle, Va; a sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Donnie Thomas, Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law David and Becky Vernon, Hardy, Va; a brother-in-law, James Wade, Blue Ridge, Va; special aunt, Helen Lockett, New Castle, Va. and a host of nephews and nieces, cousins and a special canine companion, DUDE. Special friends and neighbors, Bud Tripp, Allen and Brenda Dudding. His New Castle Methodist Church family where he was a member and a choir director for 20 years. His Hunter's Den family, West Virginia hunting friends, his other neighbors and friends. A special thanks to Paul and Mary Beaudoin at Big Pine Trout Farm for their love and consideration of Bruce. Bruce was an avid fisherman and hunter. The Commonwealth of Virginia recognized him as an expert angler and he received numerous Trophy Fish Citations. He loved Craig County and this was evidenced by his never wanting to leave and go anywhere! He was retired from Norfolk and Southern Railway with 28 years of service. He served in the US Army. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Newton and his staff for their many years of excellent care. Thanks also to Dr. Austin, Dr. May and the CCU staff and the 7th floor staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A celebration of Bruce 's life will be held on Monday, January 16, 2006, at 11 a.m. at New Castle Methodist Church with the Rev. Lowell Stovall and the Rev. Emory Tarpley officiating. Vernon, 66, of Hardy, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at his home. He was born November 1, 1941, in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rayna and Pauline Vernon; brothers, Ronnie Vernon and Bruce Vernon; and sister, Marion (June) Wade. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rebecca (Becky) Vernon; his son, Zachary David Vernon and daughter-in-law, Andrea; two grandsons, Zachary and Gavin; sister, Patsy Thomas and husband, Donnie; sister-in-law, Reba Vernon ; brother-in-law, James Wade; as well as many nieces and nephews and many special friends and neighbors. David loved his Lord, his family, his friends and neighbors, golf, hunting and fishing. He was proud of having made five holes-in-one, the last which occurred on December 31, 2007.      James Mack Wade was born on October 1, 1923.^3,4 He married Marion June Vernon, daughter of Rayna Spessard Vernon and Pauline Virginia Lee, on October 12, 1948 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,2,4 James Mack Wade died on July 29, 2008 at Virginia at age 84.³ He Together again. There are many days and events that mark the birth, the living and the passing in the life of a man. October 1, 1923 was such a day for Luna and Martin L. Wade of Floyd, Va. Their son, James M. Wade, was born on that date and began his lifes journey. He was the oldest boy in a family of six children and he loved and cared for them all of his life. He proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1942 1948, with tours both in the United States and Europe. In October of 1948 he married his best friend forever, Marion June Vernon, who preceded him in death. Mr. Wade was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Burley. He is survived by his son, Steven Michael Wade and wife, Elaine; grandson, Michael Paul England and his wife, Sara; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Ruth and Ian Michael England. Also surviving are his sisters, Reva Waddel, Glada Lawrence and husband, Thalis; and his brothers, Archie "Boot" Wade and wife, Treva and Ronnie Wade and wife, Mozel. Special thanks to the Adult Care Facility of Roanoke Valley. Mr. Wade spent many happy and content days with this special group of caregivers there on Williamson Road. And even though he lived with Dementia, he looked forward to the days he spent in their care. He lived the last 20 months of his life at Carriage Hills Retirement Center in Bedford, Va. Again, Mr. Wade was blessed to have been in the care of individuals with a special understanding of the needs of their residents. All remembrances of James will be appreciated.      Ruby Alene Hale Ruby Alene Duncan, Feb 23, 1932 - Nov 20, 2017. Ruby Alene Duncan, 85, of Roanoke and formerly of Bent Mountain, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2017. She loved to be outside especially gardening. Ruby enjoyed flowers and had a special love for animals. She loved going to church and reading her Bible. Ruby loved spending time with family and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Duncan; parents, Crettie and Sim Hale; sisters, Virginia Pruett, Clara Pruett, Marie Bell and Edna Bell; and brothers, Billy Hale and Wallace Hale. She is survived by a sister, Jacqueline Bell; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Wallace Hale was buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk, Madison Co., Nebraska.⁸ He was born on March 2, 1934 at Bent Mountain, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^2,3,8,4 He married Lorraine Mays, daughter of Angus N. Mays and Cody Odell Manning, on January 12, 1952 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,9,3,8 Wallace Hale died on June 20, 2017 at Norfolk, Madison Co., Nebraska, at age 83.^3,8 He Wallace Hale, 83, of Norfolk, died at his home, Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Wallace Hale was born on March 2, 1934, in Bent Mountain, Va. He graduated from Bent Mountain High School. On Jan. 12, 1952, he married Lorraine Mays in Roanoke, Va. He had worked for Roanoke Electric Steel in Roanoke, and later for Tennessee Forging Steel in Tennessee and Arkansas. He came to Norfolk in 1973 with Nucor Steel and worked there until his retirement in 1996. He is survived by his sons, Roger and Sandra Hale of Spearfish, S.D., Barry and Phyllis Hale of Jonesboro, Ark., Eric Hale of Norfolk; and daughter Mitzi and John Bredehoft of Battle Creek. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric (Lisa) Hale, Jaime (Chuck) Hughes, Crystal (Christopher) Schurman, Courtney Bredehoft and Noah Hale; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, and grandson David Hale. on June 23, 2017.³

Mr. Bell was a devoted member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Roanoke and served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He retired from Smith Transfer.      Ronnie Douglas Bell was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.⁵ He was born on August 4, 1948 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,4 He married Sandra Delores Thompson on July 13, 1968 at Roanoke, Virginia.⁴ Ronnie Douglas Bell died on June 2, 2015 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 66.⁵ He Ronnie D. Bell, 66, of Vinton, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at his residence. Ronnie retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as an engineer on the "Punkin Vine". He was an avid UVA and Braves fan. He was predeceased by his parents, Cecil D. and Edna H. Bell; father-in law and mother-in-law, Ralph H. and Mary B. Thompson and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Surviving family includes his wife of 46 years, Sandra T. Bell; daughters, Robynne Warren and husband, Tom, of Bolney, West Sussex England, and Rhandee Jordan and husband, Sidney and "Pop's" boys, Britton Ryker and Brogan Rhett Jordan, all of Vinton; sister and brother-in-law, Connie B. and Clay Highberger, of Roanoke; nephew and wife, Scott and Mandy Highberger and their children, Zack, Brandon and Kaytlyn; extended family and friends including his four legged kids, Charlie, Barkley and cat from Hell, Spanky. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on June 5, 2015.⁵
