Dobbins, Tallahassee, Fla; preceased sister, Mrs. Ruth Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, led by Elder Hale Terry. There will be a graveside service at the Cannaday family cemetery in Floyd County immediately following the Oakey's Chapel service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday and Monday evenings, October 29 and 30. Lawrence was buried at Lawrence Cemetery, in a field off Aglar Drive, near Stonewall Community on Rt. 221, Floyd Co., Virginia.3 He was born on June 4, 1892 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1 He married Laodus Alpha Cannaday, daughter of Andrew Luther Cannaday and Nora Dell Aldridge, on November 24, 1918 at Floyd Co., Virginia.4 Hatten P. Lawrence died on September 25, 1936 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 44.1,2 He Funeral services for H. B. Lawrence, who committed suicide 12 hours after he lost his job in a Stolesbury mine, are to be held at 1 o'clock today at Floyd, Va. The Rev. James Richardson, of the Floyd Baptist church, is to conduct services at the cemetery. Lawrence a 42-year-old resident of Church street, had been working at the mine power-house 18 years and returned home Friday morning to tell his family he had been paid off and fired. That evening he was found with a bullet through his right temple and a .22 caliber automatic rifle lying by his feet. City and state police pronounced it a suicide at an inquest. Mrs. Lawrence, sitting with her two daughters in the living room, heard the shot after her husband had been sharpening circular saw in the basement. She ran downstairs to see "what was wrong with daddy," and found him dead. Besides his widow, he leaves two daughters, Gladys 16, and Helen, 14, students in Beckley schools. on September 27, 1936.2

Mrs. Thompson died in her residence at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday after a serious illness of a month. Born at Stotesbury on Nov. 20, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Haddon P. Lawrence and Laottus Cannady Lawrence. She was married May 28, 1937, to Kelly L. Thompson who survives. Thompson operates Thompson's Store on S. Kanawha Street, and is presently employed by the Southern Chemical Company. Mrs. Thompson was a life-long resident of Raleigh County except for two years when she lived in White Sulphur Springs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beckley. Other survivors include one son, Lawrence Hugh, and one daughter, Irene Marie, both at home; one sister, Mrs. J. G. Fleshman of Columbia, S. C. One daughter, Theresa Alpha, preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1957. The body will remain at the Melton Mortuary until one hour prior to the funeral services. Pallbearers will be Charles Callaway, Dean Thurman, James Patton, Earl Whitener, W. L Humphries, Dorsey T. Keatley, H. B. Thomas, and Larence Thorn. The women of the friendship class of the church will serve as flower bearers. on July 10, 1959.3

He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Gara Fleshman. on September 4, 2003.2

He was born July 21, 1952, in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Brammer and Marie Dobbins Cannaday, and his brother, Harry Brammer Cannaday, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Campbell Cannaday, of Richmond; his sister, Brenda Gail Cannaday, of Vinton, and many other loving relatives. Roger was a member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church in Troutville. He was a remarkable athlete and loved to hunt and fish. He graduated from William Byrd High School in 1970, and that same year he was a state champion wrestler. A wrestling scholarship fund at William Byrd High School is being set up in his name. Roger also served in the United States Air Force and attended Virginia Tech. He was a skilled builder and past owner of Cannaday Construction, Inc. His family would like to thank his good friends, WC Adams and Eric Thomas, for their amazing and continuous support, compassion, and care during Rogers illness. Rogers family would also like to thank the staff at the VA Hospital in Salem for their care and kindness toward Roger. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 7 at Oakeys Funeral Home in Vinton. Funeral services will be at Oakeys Funeral Home Friday, September 8, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Ellis officiating, followed by the burial at the family cemetery in Floyd. on September 7, 2006.2
