According to a company spokesman, state and federal mine inspectors will investigate the accident today. Hurt was born at Blacksburg, Va. Aug. 8, 1913. He was a member of the Sophia Free Will Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Cannady Hurt; his parents, John Bittle and Minnie Lee Shaver Hurt of Salem, Va; two sons, Daniel M. of Hampton, Va., and Nelson E. Hurt with the Army in Hawaii, one daughter, Nora Lee Hurt at home and three grand children. The funeral will be held at the Sophia Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Wade Webb and the Rev. F. C. Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The date of the funeral has not been set The body is at Williams Funeral Home in Sophia. on November 9, 1961.3

She worked as a secretary for Cannaday Mining Repair and was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing, ceramics and sewing. Elizabeth was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church. Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi Wednesday, April 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Jon Villers officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. on April 20, 2010.2
