Ruby is also survived by a brother, Ralph Akers and wife, Margie; a sister, Marie Davis and husband, Charles; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Akers; brother-in-law, Ray C. Hale and wife Anne and many other extended family and friends. Funeral services will by held on Monday September 17, 2007 at 11 a.m., at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with Dr. William "Bill" Booth officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 982-2100. on September 15, 2007.⁸

Born on March 8, 1933, in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Rice and Josie Brammer Akers. He was preceded in death by two children, Josie and Jeff Akers. He was a retired rural letter carrier with 35 years of service at Ferrum Post Office. He was a member and Deacon of Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Eleanor Johnson Akers of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Charlie Rutrough Jr. of Ferrum; seven sons and four daughters-in-law, Rice William III ("Billy") and Virginia Akers of Callaway, Clifton Akers of Ferrum, Doyle and Annette Akers of Glade Hill, Elbert Akers of Ferrum, Darrell and Renae Akers of Callaway, Versel Akers and Cheryl Hill of Rocky Mount, Pernell Akers and Jill Hodges of Ferrum, and Linda Kennedy. Surviving grandchildren are Janie and Eugene Adkins, Charlotte, Hollie, Connie, Bonnie and Charlie Rutrough III, Katie, Brandy and Rice Akers IV, Melinda, Ralph, Josh, Ginger, Alecia, E. W., Heather, Josie and Christina Akers, Nicole Ashwell, J. J., Michael and Rebecca Akers; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Justin Adkins; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Ralph Hale of Roanoke, and Marie and Charlie Davis of Collinsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Margie Akers of Rocky Mount; three aunts and one uncle, Irene and Ralph Vest of Floyd, Myrtle Akers of Floyd and Crick et Akers of New Market, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 15, 1997, from the Lynch Funeral Chapel, with Elder W. Lane Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Ralph valiantly, served his country as a Navy Seabee during WWII in the Pacific Theater and after sacrifices to defend this Nation then became a loving husband of sixty (60) years to his wife Ruby, until her death on September 13, 2007, and devoted father. He contributed over forty (40) years of service to Norfolk Southern Railway and loved to manage his farm in Roanoke County. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Ruby Akers Hale, and his parents William F. Hale and Ollie Thomas Hale. He was also, predeceased by his sister, Ruth and brother, Clarence, who died during the influenza epidemic of the 1920's. Ralph is survived by his sons, Lance Mitchell Hale, Esquire and wife, Terry Lynn Hale, Dr. Alan Akers Hale and wife, Julie Scheiman Hale; grandchildren, Christina Nicole Hale Thomas, Laura Michelle Hale, Layna Maribeth Hale, Logan Mitchell Hale, Ian Bruce Hale, Vanessa Crystal Hale and Joseph Bryan Hale; and five great-grandchildren. Ralph is also survived by a brother, Ray Cecil Hale and wife, Anne; sisters-in-law, Marie Davis and husband, Charles and Eleanor Akers; a brother-in-law, Ralph Akers and wife, Margie; and many other extended family. Ralph is, also, survived by childhood friend, Melvin Hobson, and former co-worker at Norfolk Southern Railway and friend, Wallace Dowdy. Ralph held great appreciation for his caregivers Anthony James Campellone, Jr., and his wife, Corrie E. Campellone. Ralph and his family join with great appreciation to the staff of the Virginia Veterans Care Center, especially those special people who assisted him on Unit 1 East. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 7, 2008, at 12 noon at Oakey's Roanoke Downtown Chapel with Dr. William "Bill" Booth officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540982-2100. on June 4, 2008.²

Akers, son of Rice William Akers Sr. and Josie Ethel Brammer, circa 1958.¹ Margie Fralin Margie Fralin Akers, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. She was a member of Rocky Mount Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Mabel Fralin; her brother, Clarence Fralin; and her sisters, Marie Shively (Curtis) and Virginia Hodges (Lloyd). Margie is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ralph Akers; her daughter, Linda Griffith (Gary); grandchildren, Jessica Perry (Devin) and John Griffith; great-grandchild, Andrew Perry; nephew, Ricky Fralin (Sarah); many other family and friends. The family will receive friends at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Ricks officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Elbert J. “Pap” Akers, her parents, Rufus and Bertie Akers, and three siblings, brothers, Ray and Fred Akers and sister, BeBe Showalter. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ada Lee and Harmon Williams of Floyd; three grandchildren and spouses: Sandra and Donny Thompson, of Roanoke, Larry and Cathy Williams, of Boones Mill, and Carol Ann and Tony Bowman, of Pembroke; five great-grandchildren and spouses: Donna and Charles Laurens, of Virginia Beach, Dwayne and Carol Thompson, of Floyd, Jason and Kim Hall, of Radford, Sebastian Brooks, of Blacksburg, and Lorne Bowman, of Pembroke; three great-great grandchildren, Chelsea, Charlie and Chandler Laurens, of Virginia Beach; three sisters-in-law, Janice May, of Shenandoah, Jeanette Akers, of Christiansburg; and Irene Vest, of Floyd; special friends, Sandy and Sandra Lucas, of Roanoke; and Willie and Janet Bowles, of Callaway; many nephews, nieces and friends.
