A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on Sept. 12, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Gilbert Howard and Gladys Steber Blankenship, the second of twelve children. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Sherman Leslie Stables; her second husband of 12 years, Mason Chapman Lilly; three sisters, and four brothers. Sylvia was a faithful member of Central Christian Church in Augusta, Ga. while living with her daughter. An honorary member of American Legion Post 68 Ladies Auxiliary, she is a former “Woman of the Year” award recipient from that organization. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Stables Tiller and husband, Ed of Narrows, Va; her son, Ronald Stables and wife, Carol of Rich Creek; four grandchildren, Edwin Tiller and wife, Lynn of North Augusta, S.C, Dee Sanborn and husband, Richard of Warrenville, S.C., Leslie Stables and wife, Lisa, and Sherman Lee Stables and companion, Kelli Ratcliff, all of Rich Creek; six great-grandchildren, Michael Stables, Lindsey Stables, Jessica Tiller, Ashley Tiller, Bryson Tiller and Tyler Sanborn; two sisters, Helen Greenlief of Pearisburg, Va., and Madeline Gautier of Narrows, Va; two brothers, Billy Blankenship and Gary Blankenship, both of Baltimore, Md; Mason Lilly’s children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many special friends. Graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, Va. on March 30, 2012.1 She died on March 30, 2012 at Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia, at age 87.1,4
