Cubbison, 97, of Oil City passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday Feb. 3, 2017 at Oakwood Heights Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past 5 years. Born June 22, 1919 in Oil City, PA., she was the daughter of the late Harry & Clara Robbins Whitehill. Mae graduated from Oil City High School. As a young woman she was a waitress at Schenck’s Drive-In Restaurant in Reno, PA. Circa 1948 when it first opened. She later worked in the office at Hough Manufacturing Co. She worked many happy years at Kay’s Smorgasbord as a bookkeeper and part-time waitress for her good friend Kay Skrobat. She shared with her family many stories of great fun had at Halloween and New Year’s Eve parties with the gang at Kay’s. Through the years she enjoyed dancing, in particular, the Cha-Cha. To the delight of her family, she was adept at baking a special graham cracker cream pie that was the crowning glory of Christmas dinner. She enjoyed several international vacations visiting her son and his family in Germany. She expressed her love for them often, and though they were far away in miles, they were close in her heart. On Jan. 16, 1991 she married Lester W. Cubbison and he preceded her in death Feb. 10, 2007. Mrs. Cubbison had previously been married to Paul Schultz, who died on May 2, 2011. Mae had been a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She was known as “Gramma Maizie” to her loving grandchildren (and even “gramma with the high hair” back in the day of teased bouffants in the 60’s.) She was a treasure to her family for her kind and loving manner and her witty sense of humor, which she kept into her golden years. She loved spending time with her family, was an animal lover and a fashionista. Mae was a joy to all who knew her. With her bright personality and sparkling eyes, she brought life and light to any room she was in. She will be dearly missed. Mae is survived by two children, Jan Karasinski of Seneca, Joseph Schultz & his girlfriend Kathy Choudhry of Waldmohr, Germany; 6 Grandchildren, Daniel & Janlyn (Fankulewski ) Karasinski of Oakmont, Julie (Karasinski) Schneider & her husband Charles of Pittsburgh, Michael Karasinski of Oil City, Cindy Schultz of Kirn, Germany, Kai Schultz & his wife Regina of Ruchberg, Germany, Tim Schultz & his wife Nicole of Ruchberg, Germany; 2 Great Grandchildren, Philipp Schultz of Kirn, Germany and Kimberly Zura of Berlin, Germany. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Whitehill. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Feb. 8, in the Reinsel Funeral Home at 4 P.M. , Rev. Jamie Fowler, will preside. Interment will be in Brandon cemetery. The family would like to express their deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks for the loving care that Mae received at Oakwood Heights Nursing Home. on February 6, 2017.3
