James Linn Harris was buried at Dunnstown Cemetery, Dunnstown, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania.2,4 He was born on June 18, 1863 at Bellefonte, Centre Co., Pennsylvania.4 He married Mary A. Polsgrove, daughter of Rev. John Beaver Polsgrove and Amelia Devling, in 1884.1,6,2,7,4,3 James Linn Harris and Mary A. Polsgrove were divorced circa 1887.6 James Linn Harris married Mary A. Polsgrove, daughter of Rev. John Beaver Polsgrove and Amelia Devling, in June, 1917 at Pennsylvania.6 James Linn Harris died on September 12, 1938 at Lock Haven, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania, at age 75.4,5 He J. Linn Harris died at 6.20 o'clock last evening at his home, 421 West Main Street, after an illness of two weeks. Death was caused by a heart condition aggravated by bronchitis. A week ago his condition became worse and yesterday morning he lapsed into a coma, the end coming peacefully. His son, Dr. Linn H. Harris, president of Blue Ridge College, New Windsor, Md., arrived at his bedside a few minutes before he died. Funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Masonic fraternity in charge. His intimate friend, the Rev. J. W. Claudy, warden of Rockview Penitentiary, will speak at the services. Interment will be made in Dunnstown Cemetery. Mr. Harris, who was in his 75th year, was born in Bellefonte, the son of John P. and Mary Scott Harris. Educated at the Bellefonte schools and the Pennsylvania State College, he began his business career as an assistant to his father, who was a cashier in Bellefonte bank. He took an active and prominent part in Republican politics, having been chairman of the Centre County Republican Committee for several years. He served in the state treasurer's office at Harrisburg and on the State Forestry Board. Largely through his influence, the Western Penitentiary was located at Rockview. When that institution was formally completed in 1915, Mr. Harris was given the tributes of his neighbors for the part he played in having the site selected in Centre County. His interest in the institution continued throughout his life, both as a trustee and through his acquaintance with Dr. Claudy. In 1921, Mr. Harris removed to this city better to look after the interests of the Bellefonte Company which has its quarries at Salona. While here he attended the Great Island Presbyterian Church and became a member of the Rotary Club. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Bellefonte. A 32nd degree Mason, he was associated with the Williamsport Consistory and was a past president of Temple Club here and with the Jaffa Temple at Altoona. He was a past exalted ruler of the Bellefonte Lodge of Elks. He had extensive timber and coal interests, the latter being located in the Black Moshannon district of Centre County. In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Harris is survived by two sisters, Dr. Edith Schad, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Frank Warfield, Bellefonte, one brother, Dr. Edward Harris, Snow Shoe, and by one granddaughter, Elizabeth. on September 13, 1938.5
