Ruth was a nursing assistant, working at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 20 years, and also at the Knox County Nursing Home and Galesburg Mental Health Center. She retired in 1984. She attended high school in Gilson and Galesburg. Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church of Knoxville. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Shreeves will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Knox County Nursing Home or to the First Christian Church of Knoxville. on February 16, 2010.3

Jones, Denver, Colo; eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters. He was a salesman for Trapp Ford and then was shop foreman for Weaver Chrysler. He was owner of Jonesie's Cafe for eight years. He was a custodian for Galesburg School District 205 for 12 years. He retired in 1976. He attended Knoxville High School. He was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2257. He had lived in this area his entire life. He served in the Army during WWII from 1941 to 1945 achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was stationed in the Western Pacific. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. M.J. Fitch and the Rev. Greg Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery, with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Society. on October 21, 2007.2

Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Shriners' Hospitals for Children or any charity. on March 9, 2000.2

Smith Joes, she married Wendell F. "Sam" Whitcomb in Missouri on Sep. 18, 1940. He died in 1968. She was a graduate of Carl Sandberg College's Licensed Practical Nursing School and worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Knox County Nursing Home for 20 years before retiring five years ago. She was a member of First Christian Church. Surviving are one son, Max of Galesburg; three daughters, Joan Larsen of Decatur, Linda Porch of San Diego and Jackie Copeland of Denver; and eight grandchilddren. Also surviving are three brothers, Jasper Jones of Galesburg, Lowell Jones of Mission, Texas, and Charlie Jones of Wataga; and four sisters, Ruth Pruett, Ida Mae Howerter and Jennie Lee Parrish, all of Galesburg, and her twin sister, Pauline Bliss of Quincy. She lived in Galesburg most her life. She was an avid bingo player. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Kirk Kendall officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be Monday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Beacon of Hope Hospice. on July 11, 2007.2

Surviving are four daughters, Kathleen Shaw, Galesburg, Yvette (and Dan) Boone, Morristown, Tenn., Beverly (and William) Nugent, Las Vegas, Nev., and Deborah Smith Jones, Galesburg; a son, Richard (and Bonnie) Jones, Galesburg; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Sonnenberg, Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Shirley was a secretary at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital for 27 years, retiring in 1985. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1940 and from Brown's Business College. She was a member of First Christian Church, VFW Post 2257 Auxiliary and a former member of Professional Secretaries International. She lived in the area all her life. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. on February 21, 2008.2

Yvette was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Shirley Jones; and her sister, Kathy Shaw. Yvette is survived by her daughters, Ronette (John) Koogler and Ronia (Shane) Over, all of Morristown; grandchildren, Chelsey, Julia and Jon Koogler and Serenity and Mackenzy Over, all of Morristown; sisters, Bev (Bill) Nugent of Las Vegas and Debbie Smith of Galesburg; brother, Rick (Bonnie) Jones of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the graveside in Hamblen Memory Gardens at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2020, with Dr. Keith Mowery officiating. on July 23, 2020.3

He worked at Strode Garage Inc. in Maquon, which he later owned and operated. He last worked at John Bearce Auto Mall in East Peoria. He was a driver for Rapatee-Maquon-Gilson Ambulance Service and was a former member of Maquon Fire Department. He was a former member of Galesburg Pilots Club, Knoxville Jaycees, Ford Motor Co. National Dealer Council and was former director of the Ford Dealers Advertising Fund Committee. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg, with military rites by the Navy Reserve Training Center of Peoria. on January 25, 1997.2
