     Nina Lorraine Jacobs was buried at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.6 Her Social Security Number was 236-22-8267.7 Her married name was Smith.2 She married Gordon Thomas Smith Sr.2,8 Nina Lorraine Jacobs was born on January 19, 1921 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.7,3 She died on September 8, 2004 at West Virginia at age 83.2,7,6 She Nina Lorriane Jacobs Smith passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 8, 2004, at 83 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Thomas Smith and her daughter-in-law, Jean Fannin Smith. Four loving sons, Gordon Thomas Smith and wife, Beverly, of Teays Valley, Reginald Morris Smith and wife, Charlene of Charleston, Dana Keith Smith of Winston-Salem and Richard Wayne Smith of Orlando survive her. She also left memories of her with four loving grandchildren, Reginald Smith II and spouse, Jennifer, Melissa Rosen and spouse, Bryan, all of Charleston, Christine Smith and Michael Smith, each of Orlando, Fla; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Smith and Drew Orcutt-Rose; a brother-in-law, Robert L. Smith and his wife, Ruth, also survive her. She was a past volunteer for CAMC at both the Memorial and Women and Children's hospitals. She was an active participant of the Alley Cat's Exercise Class at Boyd Memorial Church and she retired after several years of work as a medical assistant to Dr. George Hamrick. She was an avid reader and had won several achievement awards for reading from the Kanawha County Library the included the reading of 99 books in 1999. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Her sons would like to thank her friend, Doris Chessman, for all of her help and friendship. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes with the Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

Ott Weaver, 36, of Spring Hill, was killed and William Brawley, 35 of this city received burns that may cause his death in an explosion at the plant of the Barium Reduction company in South Charleston at 4:15 o'clock, yesterday afternoon. Brawley was rushed to the Dunn hospital in South Charleston immediately after the blast and was reported to be in a serious condition, last night. The explosion came when a huge gas tank near the upper end of the tank let go. Weaver was beneath the tank at the time on an inspection tour and was burned to death. It was thought that he had been instantly killed. Weaver was working near the tank when the explosion took place. The exact cause of the blast could not be determined last night. The deceased was an electrical engineer and had been employed at the Barium plant in South Charleston for 11 years. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Weaver, and four children, Mildred, 15, Meredith, 13, Ruth, 11, and Lawrence, 9 years of age. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Weaver of 1423 Seventh avenue, this city, and three brothers and three sisters also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the South Charleston Baptist church. It was announced last night. Officials of the Barium company could not be reached last night and the extent of the damage to the plant could not be learned. It was understood, however, that the loss was covered, by insurance. Weaver was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, the order of Junior Mechanics and the Knights of Pythias according to his family. Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church of South Charleston and will be in charge of the Knights of Pythias. on October 23, 1926.4
