Hugh Eaton Jr., of Palmer Lake, Colo., took his journey home just shy of his 80th birthday from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. His family was by his side when he finished the race to God's glory. He was born to Ruby and Hugh Mitchell Eaton Sr., of Roanoke on August 6, 1932. During the Korean War, Hugh served for four years in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller. He earned a B.S. in accounting (with honors) from Virginia Tech and also completed graduate study at Harvard Business School, Duke Divinity School, and Emory University's Candler School of Theology. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. During his long, successful career, Hugh worked as a licensed CPA, taught accounting at Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University, and served as a certified lay preacher in the Virginia United Methodist Conference. His 29 year career with Landmark Communications spanned accounting, human resources, and general management, culminating as the start-up General Manager for The Weather Channel in Atlanta. Hugh was a respected man of faith and served as a board member for MOPS International of Denver, Union Mission in Norfolk, and the Colorado Cursillo Council. For eight years, he supported his community on the Lewis-Palmer District 38 School Board. Currently, Hugh was a board member and treasurer of FUVIRESE USA in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. In retirement, Hugh's freelance writings were published in the Denver Post, Colorado Springs Gazette, and The Roanoke Times, as well as Parents Life, Graybeard, and First Pres magazines. His last work was a historical fiction novel entitled Just Plein Heaven. Hugh is survived by his wife, Diana (Dee Dee) Eaton, his sister Judy Eaton, his first wife Frances Eaton, his children Lee Ann Eaton, Mitch Eaton, Steve Eaton and his wife Carol, and grandchildren Conor and Charles Eaton. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Shirley Eaton-Chattin, and his son, Joshua William Eaton. He also leaves loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. on August 8, 2012.5
