He had a great love for the outdoors, and had a true passion for fishing. He was known for his great sense of humor and joke-telling ability! He leaves behind many friends around the country and will be missed by all. Survivors include a son, Mike Harrah and wife Teresa; a daughter, Susan Barber; two grandchildren, Hillarie Harrah and Chad Barber; and a very special friend, Fran Rine. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. on April 25, 2008.3

Born Jan. 14, 1876 at Table Rock, he was a son of the late William and Virginia Kidwell Johnston. His wife, who survives, was the former Virgilia Mae Cole. A retired coal miner, he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 7086 and a member of God's Tabnernacle Church at Lanark. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters; Mrs. Garnet Davis and Mrs. Ruby Douglas, both of Charleston, and Mrs. Opal Biggs and Mrs. Esther Gill, both of Lanark; two sons, Cecil, of Beckley, amd Carl, of Belle; four sisters, Mrs. Norah Lawson, of Lanark, Mrs. Wristle Carper and Mrs. Maude Milliner, both of Beckley, and Mrs. Virgie Plumb, of Calloway Heights; two brothers, Walter, of Grandview, and Wayman, of Calloway Heights. Twenty-three grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. The body is at Quesenberry and Webb Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements. on December 21, 1953.4 He died on December 21, 1953 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 77.3,5

A granddaughter-in-law, Kathy of Crab Orchard. 3 greatgrandchildren, Ashley, Samuel, and Sydney all of Crab Orchard. A brother, Clarence Biggs of Charlotte, NC; 3 sisters, Bertha McMillion of Crab Orchard, Rita Perdue of Lookout, and Barbara Meadows of Mabscott, WV. Mrs. Gill is also survived by special friends and caregivers, her brother-in-law Wayne Jarrett of Beckley and Melissa Howell of Beckley. Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia, on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 3 p.m. (today) with Pastor Roger Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial on January 7, 2011.2

The body of Thomas Gregory Biggs, 26, of Soak Creek was found approximately 2,000 up river from the Quinnimont railroad yards, according to state police. Biggs and his brother, Jerry, 17, of Mabscott, were last seen at their campsite at the mouth of Glade Creek on New River, police said. A small aluminum boat with an electric outboard motor believed used by the brothers was found near Terry on Saturday, a state trooper said, and their pickup truck and gear were found apparently undisturbed at the campsite. Police credited a combined effort of searchers from both Raleigh and Fayette counties for finding the body. Frederick Perry, president of the Radio Emergency Association Team, said his group alone had spent over 1,000 man-hours in the recovery efforts. Thomas Biggs was born on Dec. 22, 1948, at Lanark, a son of Mrs. Opal Johnson Biggs of Mabscott and the late Roy Biggs. Other survivors include his widow, Margaret Williams Biggs; one daughter, Jeannie Marie Biggs at home; two brothers, Roy Franklin of Sun and Clarence with the Marine Corps in Johnson City, Tex. Seven sisters, Mrs. Esther Hill of Piney View, Mrs. Ruby Redden, Mrs. Edith McMillion and Mrs. Anna Belle Milam, all of Crab Orchard, Mrs. Bertha McMillion and Mrs. Rita Perdue, both of Sophia, and Mrs. Barbara Meadows of Raleigh. The body is at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home. on May 1, 1975.4

She was of the Baptist faith and has many brothers and sisters in Christ. Mrs. Redden was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Redden; by son, Robert Redden; by brothers, Roy Franklin Biggs and Tommy Biggs; and by sisters, Mary Rowena Biggs and Ann Milam. Survivors include her seven children, Mary Adkins and husband, Wayne, of Prosperity, Roger Redden and wife, Mary, of Flat Top, Ruby Jane Pack and husband, Clyde, of Westfield, N.C., Sheila Redden of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Sandra Chancey and husband, Rick, of MacArthur, Rick Redden and companion, Dennis Thompson, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Debbie Ballard of Beckley; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Biggs of Charlotte, N.C; and five sisters, Ester Gill of Crab Orchard, Bertha McMillion of Crab Orchard, Edith McMillion of Mt. Airy, N.C., Rita Perdue of Lookout, and Barbara Meadows of Mabscott. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who loved her. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Billy Calhoun officiating.
