She was 76. Mrs. Basey was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Aurora, Colo., graduated from high school in Greeley, Colo., and attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She married Melvin Basey on March 17, 1946, in Greeley. A school teacher, she taught in the Bellevue School District from 1968 until 1995 and was a substitute teacher at St. Louise, Sacred Heart and other Catholic schools on the Eastside from 1997 until her death. She lived on the Eastside for 33 years. Her daughter, Marsha Ferguson of Bellevue, said she was a dedicated teacher of friendship, independence and strength along with being a dedicated scholastic teacher. In addition, she loved people and they instantly called her "mom" or "grandma." Her husband of 51 years died in 1997. In addition to her daughter, survivors include her son, Mark Basey of Federal Way; sisters Virginia Peterson of Greeley and Margarita Wiggs of Falls Church, Va; and one grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Green's Bellevue Funeral Home. She graduated from The Fieldston School in 1947, and William Smith College in 1951. She moved to Stamford in early 1953 with her husband Dr. Melville G. Magida who died in 1981. She remarried Martin Oscard in 1987 who died in 2005. Libby taught Spanish, managed her second husband's business, and was involved in various community activities over the years she lived in Stamford. She is survived be her children, Amy Magida Haskell and her husband Richard Haskell of Memphis, Tennessee and Suzanne Magida of Stamford. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Margaret, Gillian, and Jack Haskell as well as a stepson, Doug Oscard of Columbus, Ohio. Services are private. The family welcomes friends and family at Libby's home on Wednesday, August 15th and Thursday, August 16th, from 7-9p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stamford Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund, 9 West Broad Street, Stamford, CT 06902. on August 14, 2007.⁶
