Mr. Mahon was the superintendent of schools in Oberlin, KS for 21 years and also held school administrative positions at Parker, Lenexa, Turner, DeSoto and Shawnee Mission, KS. He worked in Kansas public schools for 49 years. He served on the board of directors and as vice-president of the Kansas State Teachers Association. He was president of the Johnson County Retired Teachers Association. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Johnson County Teachers Credit Union. He was a member of St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, Richardson, TX; a former member of the Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, KS; and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He was a 70 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 135 of Lenexa, KS. He was also a Rotarian for over 50 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Mahon is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Mahon Allgaier and her husband, Donald of Richardson, TX; grandsons, Michael Wheeler of Alpharetta, GA, Charles Wheeler and his wife, Lynne of Toomsbuba, MS and Jeffrey Wheeler and his wife, Brenda and great-granddaughter, Rebecca of Frisco, TX; a sister, Reta Henderson of Lenexa, KS; a sister-in-law, Esther Fry of Lee's Summit, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnese; one brother, Willard Mahon; two sisters, Pearl Ellington and Edna Williamson; and a grandson, Gregory Wheeler. A memorial service will be held at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Drive on Saturday, September 11, 2004, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Harry G. Mahon and Sylvia Mahon Allgaier Scholarship through the Kansas University Endowment Association, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 660440928.      Helen E. Mahon was buried at Mission Center Cemetery, Topeka, Shawnee Co., Kansas.3 She Helen E. Martin, 85, of Topeka, passed away Wed., January 9, 2008 at Midland Hospice House. She was born January 19, 1922 in Gridley, KS, the daughter of L.W. and Anna Switzer Mahon. She and her parents moved to Yates Center where she was educated and graduated from Yates Center High School Helen married Maurice Martin on Aug. 6, 1946. They later moved to Topeka where Helen worked as a legislative secretary for several senators. She was instrumental in the success of The Rainbow Connection, where she worked for many years. She was a founding member of Chapter HC, P.E.O. where she held several offices and served as treasurer numerous times. Recently, she was honored as a 50 year member. Helen was an avid Royals fan and enjoyed playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles and sitting on her screened in porch watching sunsets at Lake Sherwood. She will be remembered as a very generous person with a good sense of humor. Her family was always the main focus in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Thornburg and her husband Dick of Topeka and Barbara Pearce of Wooster, OH; grandchildren Todd Thornburg of Jackson, MS, Megan Widman and husband James of Topeka, Laura Wirth and husband Robert of Wooster, OH and Michael Pearce and wife Laura of Essex Junction, VT; 10 great grandchildren and a brother, Morris Mahon and wife Dee of Yates Center. In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Martin was cremated. A graveside inurnment service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sat. January 12, 2008 in the Mission Center Cemetery, 29th and Urish Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW.      Morris Charles Mahon Morris Charles Mahon, 91, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, September 11, 2016, at his home surrounded by family members. He was born August 20, 1925, in Gridley, Kansas, the son of Lawrence Willard and Anna Melvina (Switzer) Mahon. The family moved to Yates Center when Morris was two years old and he graduated from Yates Center High School in 1943. He attended the University of Kansas for one semester following high school. On November 12, 1943, Morris entered the United States Army Air Corps. He served during World War II and was a Top Turret Gunner and Flight Engineer on a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on March 20, 1946. Morris went to Washburn University from 1947 until earning his BBA Degree in 1951. In 1953 he entered the Kansas National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 195th Field Artillery Battalion in Yates Center which later became the 772nd Engineering Company and Morris was promoted to the rank of Captain. He served until his discharge in 1962. He was a member of Woodson Post #13, American Legion, in Yates Center. He met his lifelong companion and the love of his life, Delores Dee Sterling, in 1947, and they were married July 17, 1949, at the First Methodist Church in Eureka, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Gloria Gae on September 16, 1950, and Curtis Vance on April 5, 1953. Morris operated Mahon Motor Company, a Ford Dealership in Yates Center, from 1952 until 1971. He was a car salesman for Dale Wichman Ford in Iola from 1972 to 1973 . He was employed by the Kansas Driver’s License Examining Bureau as a Field Supervisor from 1973 until 1983 and was a salesman for Reserve National Insurance Company. He retired from active employment in 1990. Morris had been a member of the First Christian Church in Yates Center and was currently a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Yates Center. His wife, Dee Dee, preceded him in death on May 7, 2013, following nearly 64 years of marriage. He was also preceded by his parents and his sister, Helen Martin. He leaves his daughter, Gloria Adams and husband Michael, Wichita, Kansas; his son, Curt Mahon & Ronda , Gulf Shores, Alabama; three grandchildren, Monica Hale and husband Claude, Wichita, Courtney Mahon and wife Christy, Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Carson Mahon and Melissa, Fairhope, Alabama; four great-grandchildren, Austin Hale, Paige Newsted and husband Casey of Wichita, and Braiden and Ryan Mahon of Virginia Beach , Va; many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. Burial will follow in Yates Center Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
