Mr. Crowder was preceded in death by one son, Roger L. Crowder Sr., two grandsons, one granddaughter and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 1996, 2 p.m., at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Troutville, with the Rev. Carter Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Troutville Rescue Squad. on January 26, 1996.4

He was a member of the Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church in Roanoke and was a life member of the VFW. He served in the United States Army and worked for General Motor Lines in Roanoke as a Truck Driver for about 20 years. He loved to garden and hunt. Mr. Crowder is survived by his wife, Hazel, of Troutville; two sons, Mike Crowder, of Troutville, and Corky and his wife, Linda, of Troutville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeff Crowder, of Roanoke, Greg Crowder, of New Castle, Larry Crowder, of Fincastle, Meagan Crowder, of Raleigh, N.C., Melissa Crowder, of Radford, Va; stepgrandchildren, Daren Taylor, of Roanoke, Karen Peters, of Roanoke, and Wendy Purdue, of Salem. He is also survived by three sisters, Lyla Gibson, of Vinton, Ruby Collins, of Roanoke and Thelma Jones, of Chester, Va; and one brother, Clyde Crowder, of Daleville. He is also survived by greatgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and special neighbors, Bruce, Duckie and Clint Switzer. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church, 5512 Hollins Rd., Roanoke. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 8, 2010, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home and services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Rader Funeral Home with the Rev. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal. Upon discharge from the Navy, he returned to Salem where he met the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean Carter Crowder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lewis Crowder and Lucy Frances Zell; three brothers, William, Kenneth, and Eugene Crowder; a special brother-inlaw, Jack Carter; and a precious grandson, Joshua Crowder. Surviving to cherish his memory along with his wife is a brother, Leo Crowder and wife, Marge, of Maryland; special brother-in-law, Dennis Alan Carter and fiancée, Anne Thomason, of Salem; daughter, Mary Painter and husband, Johnnie, of Waynesboro; three sons, Tommy Crowder and wife, Connie, of Salem, Larry Crowder and wife, Deidre, of Roanoke, and Mark Crowder and wife, Mary, of Salem; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A special thanks goes out to the medical staff at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, the staff at the Blue Ridge Cancer Center, and the Medi-Home Healthcare workers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Wally Mayo officiating.      Leo Francis Crowder Leo F. Crowder, 83, of Abingdon, MD, formerly of Edgewood, passed away on October 30, 2015 at his home. Born in Roanoke, VA, he was the son of the late Robert Lewis Crowder and Lucy Frances (Zell) Crowder. He served his country in the U.S. Army and worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the Motor Vehicle Department for about 30 years. After his retirement from APG, he worked for Kunkels Auto Parts for almost 20 years. He was a past member of Maple View Baptist Church where he headed up the Bus Ministry, was a current member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and had volunteered at Tabitha's House in Fallston for about five years. He enjoyed talking politics and religion and bringing out the best in people. He was a true family man and he and his wife had proudly fostered 20 children in 15 years. They were recipients of the Harford County's Most Beautiful People Award. Mr. Crowder is survived by his wife, Margarette E. (Thomas) Crowder; son, Phillip Crowder of Forest Hill; daughter, Sandra Pace and her husband, Philip Pace, of Bel Air; stepchildren, Donald Wallis of Nottingham and Patrick Wallis of Bel Air; grandchildren, Robert Crowder, Noah Pace and Nathan Pace; and nine step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepchildren, Douglas Wallis and Debbie Barnes; and his brothers, William, Edward, Kenneth and Eugene Crowder.
